  1. 31. Modelling of Mass and Heat Transport in Paper - Evaluation of Mechanisms and Shrinkage

    Author : Erik Baggerud; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; solid-based coordinates; paper; porous medium; convection; diffusion; volume fractions; mercury displacement; shrinkage; simulations; convective; hot surface; Modelling; drying; Wood; pulp and paper technology; Pappers- och massateknik;

    Abstract : In this work a one-dimensional model for the mass and heat transport in the thickness direction of paper has been developed. Solid-based coordinates were applied to simplify incorporation of shrinkage. Liquid diffusion, gas convection and vapour and air diffusion were incorporated as mass transport mechansims. READ MORE

  2. 32. Materials Design for Paper Electrodes : A Papermaking Perspective on Electrode Fabrication

    Author : Patrik Isacsson; Isak Engquist; Magnus Berggren; Nadège Reverdy-Bruas; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Papermaking; Electrodes; Lignin; Nanocarbons; PEDOT:PSS;

    Abstract : The electrification and digitalization of our society has propelled the demand for energy storage solutions. High-end technologies have been developed to satisfy the requirements of demanding applications, such as electromobility and portable consumer electronics, which also increasingly find markets for less demanding applications. 3. 33. Beam-to-Beam Contact and Its Application to Micromechanical Simulation of Fiber Networks

    Author : Hamid Reza Motamedian; Artem Kulachenko; Umberto Perego; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fiber network; beam-to-beam contact; rotational contact; non-consistent; simulation; finite element; multiscale; microscale; micromechanics; paper; refining; beating; fine; hygroexpansion; shrinkage; drying; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis covers the topic of modeling the three-dimensional fiber net- works with the finite element method. It contains the part addressing the numerical aspects of the modeling, namely, the contact formulation and application of the developed methods to the fundamental questions such as the effect of randomness in fiber properties and effect of fines and hygroexpansion. 4. 34. Simulations of the Dynamics of Fibre Suspension Flows

    Author : Stefan B Lindström; Tetsu Uesaka; Myat Htun; Fritz Bark; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fibre; fibre suspension; simulation; paper; papermaking; forming; fibre orientation distribution; fibre flexibility; viscosity; first normal stress difference; fluid flow; simple shear flow; two-way coupling; three-dimensional; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : A new model for simulating non-Brownian flexible fibres suspended in a Newtonian fluid has been developed. Special attention has been given to include realistic flow conditions found in the industrial papermaking process in the key features of the model; it is the intention of the author to employ the model in simulations of the forming section of the paper machine in future studies.
