  1. 1. The papilla of Vater : issues relevant to transpapillary cannulation and clinical management

    Author : Erik Haraldsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Many endoscopists have since the beginning of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) commented on the variation in the macroscopic appearance of the papilla of Vater. How the macroscopic appearance of the papilla influences the cannulation efforts during ERCP has been discussed but not previously investigated in-depth. READ MORE

  2. 2. Anatomy of the amphibious liverwort Ricciocarpus natans

    Author : Eva Kronestedt; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Levermossor morfologi;

    Abstract : The purpose of the present investigation was to study the structural adaptations in the terrestrial and aquatic life-forms of Ricciocarpus natans and to obtain more information on the ultrastructure and morphogenesis of cells and tissues in this member of the hepatics. Optical and electron (scanning and transmission) microscopy were combined to elucidate various structural aspects. READ MORE

  3. 3. Hyaluronan and Renal Fluid Handling : Studies during Normal and Pathological Conditions of Renal Function

    Author : Viktoria Göransson; Mats Rundgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; CD44; gerbils; hyaluronan; ischemia-reperfusion; kidney; osmolality; oxygen tension; rat; renomedullary interstitial cells; water; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : The kidney is the major organ responsible for the regulation of the composition and volume of the body fluids, which is essential for homeostasis. The glycosaminoglycan hyaluronan (HA), with extreme water-binding capacity, is present in the interstitium of the kidney with a heterogenous distribution. READ MORE

  4. 4. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography : Perforation and long-term outcomes after endoscopic sphincterotomy

    Author : Ann Langerth; Britt-Marie Karlson; Bengt Isaksson; Per Hellman; Riadh Sadik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Long-term outcome; ERCP; perforation; endoscopic sphincterotomy;

    Abstract : Endoscopic retrograde cholangio pancreatography (ERCP) is a commonly used procedure in various disorders of the pancreatobiliary tract. When extracting common bile duct stones (CBDS), the major duodenal papilla is divided using a papillotome to perform an endoscopic sphincterotomy (ES). READ MORE

  5. 5. Renal Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in Diabetes : Experimental Studies in the Rat

    Author : Jan Melin; Bengt Rippe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; diabetes mellitus; ischemia reperfusion; rat; end-stage renal disease; inflammation; fibrosis; hyaluronan; CD44; treatment; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the leading causes of end stage renal failure. An increased susceptibility to renal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)-injury was found in DM rats. Unilateral renal ischemia for as short as 20 minutes led to an irreversible progressive injury in DM kidneys, whereas the injury in non-DM kidneys was almost reversible. READ MORE
