1. Iron Carbonyl Mediated Parallel Synthesis
Abstract : This thesis describes the examination and development of cationic iron carbonyl complexes for use in parallel synthesis both in solution phase and on solid phase. A solution phase methodology for carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom formation, utilizing polymer bound reagents and scavengers and amenable for automation has been successfully developed. READ MORE

2. Methods for Asymmetric Olefination Reactions; Development and Application to Natural Product Synthesis
Abstract : This thesis deals with the development and application of methods for asymmetric olefinations, in particular Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons (HWE) reactions, in the synthesis of certain natural products. Relying on asymmetric HWE reactions to access key building blocks, two natu-ral products, pyranicin and pyragonicin, were synthesized from common late intermediates. READ MORE

3. Design and Synthesis of Galectin Inhibitors
Abstract : Galectins, a lectin family, have shown binding affinities towards b-galactosides. Galectins have been proposed to be involved in a wide range of functions like for example, cell growth, adhesion, migration, chemo taxis and apoptosis. They have also been associated with various cancer types. READ MORE

4. High-Level Synthesis for SiLago : Advances in Optimization of High-Level Synthesis Tool and Neural Network Algorithms
Abstract : Embedded hardware designs and their automation improve energy and engineering efficiency. However, these two goals are often contradictory. The attempts to improve energy efficiency often come at the cost of engineering efficiency and vice-versa. High-level synthesis (HLS) is a good example of this challenge. READ MORE

5. 3D Magnetic Photonic Crystals : Synthesis and Characterization
Abstract : This thesis presents the synthesis methods and the characterizations of magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles, silica spheres with Fe3O4 nanoparticles embedded, and three dimensional magnetic photonic crystals (MPCs) prepared from the spheres. The structure, material composition, magnetic and optical properties, photonic band gaps (PBGs), as well as how these properties depend on the concentration of the magnetic nanoparticles, are investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID), Faraday rotation (FR) and optical spectrophotometers.
