  1. 1. Probabilistic System Effects in Timber Structures

    Author : Martin Hansson; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Byggnadsteknik; Building construction; Anläggningsteknik; Construction technology; first order reliability method; Monte Carlo simulation; system effect; sheathed parallel member system; structural timber; roof truss;

    Abstract : The main purpose of the performed research presented in this thesis is to increase the understanding of the effect of variability of strength properties on the reliability of timber structural systems. Compared to other structural materials such as steel and concrete, structural timber has a considerably higher variability of strength both within and between members. READ MORE

  2. 2. Managing the Complexity in Embedded and Cyber-Physical System Design : System Modeling and Design-Space Exploration

    Author : Seyed Hosein Attarzadeh Niaki; Ingo Sander; Christian Haubelt; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : To cope with the increasing complexity of embedded and cyber-physical system design, different system-level design approaches are proposed which start from abstract models and implement them using design flows with high degrees of automation. However, creating models of such systems and also formulating the mathematical problems arising in these design flows are themselves challenging tasks. READ MORE

  3. 3. Certifying Correctness for Combinatorial Algorithms : by Using Pseudo-Boolean Reasoning

    Author : Stephan Gocht; Parallella System; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; certifying algorithms; 0-1 linear inequalities; combinatorial algorithms; proof logging;

    Abstract : Over the last decades, dramatic improvements in combinatorialoptimisation algorithms have significantly impacted artificialintelligence, operations research, and other areas. These advances,however, are achieved through highly sophisticated algorithms that aredifficult to verify and prone to implementation errors that can causeincorrect results. READ MORE

  4. 4. Towards Fully Dynamic Surface Illumination in Real-Time Rendering using Acceleration Data Structures

    Author : Pierre Moreau; Parallella System; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer graphics; Real-time; Ray tracing; Caustics; Global illumination;

    Abstract : The improvements in GPU hardware, including hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and the push for fully dynamic realistic-looking video games, has been driving more research in the use of ray tracing in real-time applications. The work described in this thesis covers multiple aspects such as optimisations, adapting existing offline methods to real-time constraints, and adding effects which were hard to simulate without the new hardware, all working towards a fully dynamic surface illumination rendering in real-time. 5. 5. Design and Evaluation of Compact Multi-antennas for Efficient MIMO Communications

    Author : Ruiyuan Tian; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; antenna; propagation channel; MIMO system; wireless communication;

    Abstract : The use of multi-antenna systems with multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology will play a key role in providing high spectrum efficiency for next generation mobile communication systems. This thesis offers valuable insights on the design of compact multi-antennas for efficient MIMO communications. READ MORE
