  1. 1. Effects of surface plasmons in subwavelength metallic structures

    Author : Srinivasan Iyer; Ari T. Friberg; N. Asger Mortensen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; suface plasmons; extraordinary transmission; metamaterials; shnets; split-ring resonators; plasmon-induced EIT; optical antennas; plasmonics;

    Abstract : The study of optical phenomena related to the strong electromagnetic response of noble metals (silver (Ag) and gold (Au) being most popular) over the last couple of decades has led to the emergence of a fast growing research area called plasmonics named after 'surface plasmons' which are electron density waves that propagate along the interface of a metal and a dielectric medium. Surface plasmons are formed by the coupling of light to the electrons on the metal surface subject to the fulfillment of certain physical conditions and they are bound to the metal surface. 2. 2. Thermal and Photon Stimulated Reactions on Metal Particles

    Author : Kristina Wettergren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Plasmons; Platinum Clusters; Platinum Nanoparticles; Hydrogen Oxidation; Sodium; Silver Nanoparticles; Nitric Oxide; Photodesorption; Sintering; Graphite; Water;

    Abstract : The interaction between molecules and solid surfaces influence our daily lives in many ways. One important example is heterogeneous catalysis where surface reactions, for example, are used for production of chemicals and exhaust after-treatment. READ MORE

  3. 3. Thermal and Photon Driven Reactions of NO and H2O Adsorbed on Graphite

    Author : Kristina Wettergren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Water; Graphite; Silver Clusters; Sodium; Photodesorption; Nitric Oxide; Particle Plasmons;

    Abstract : The topic of this thesis is the interaction of water (H2O) and nitric oxide (NO) with the graphite (C(0001)) surface. Specifically the effects of coadsorbing metals (Na, Ag) and subjecting the adsorption systems to thermal and photon activation were studied. READ MORE

  4. 4. Resonant Interactions Between Nanoparticle Plasmons and Molecular Excitons

    Author : Gülis Zengin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; surface-enhanced absorption; J-aggregates; Localized surface plasmon resonance; strong coupling; Rhodamine 6G; nanoparticles;

    Abstract : Molecular plasmonics involves the study and applications of plasmonic metal nanostructures interacting with molecules. It has been a basis for development of fundamental understandings of light-matter interactions as well as of new technologies, including biological and chemical sensors and plasmon-enhanced spectroscopies.
