1. Emittance and Energy Diagnostics for Electron Beams with Large Momentum Spread
Abstract : Following the discovery of the Higgs-like boson at the Large Hadron Collider, there is demand for precision measurements on recent findings. The Compact Linear Collider, CLIC, is a candidate for a future linear electron-positron collider for such precision measurements. READ MORE

2. Laser-Driven Particle Acceleration - Improving Performance Through Smart Target Design
Abstract : Laser-driven particle acceleration makes use of sub-picosecond, pulsed, high-power laser systems, capable of producing intensities ~10^{19} W/cm^2 at the laser focus to form plasmas, and use ultra-relativistic and nonlinear dynamics to produce quasistatic acceleration fields. This allows electrons to be accelerated to ~100 MeV over sub-centimetre distances, while protons may be accelerated to the ~10 MeV regime. READ MORE

3. Reactions with relativistic radioactive beams and gamma multiplicities
Abstract : Experiments with relativistic radioactive beams are used to study the properties of exotic nuclei. The experimental setup used in this thesis is a complex system of detectors for identifying and measuring the 4-momenta of all incoming nuclei and products created when the nuclei impinge on a reaction target. 4. Measurements of the Standard Model Higgs boson cross sections in the WW* decay mode with the ATLAS experiment
Abstract : This thesis summarises measurements of the Standard Model Higgs boson production cross sections based on proton–proton collision data at √s = 13 TeV produced by the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. By analysing data collected during 2015 and 2016 by the ATLAS experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 fb−1, the Higgs boson gluon–gluon fusion and vector boson fusion production cross sections are measured in the WW* decay mode. 5. Laser-Produced Plasmas for Particle Acceleration
Abstract : This thesis describes experimental studies that aim to stabilise and optimise laser-based particle accelerators. The technique is called laser wakefield acceleration, where electric fields of the order of 102 GV/m accelerate electrons to high energies (⇠102 MeV) over mm-distances in laser-produced plasmas.
