  1. 6. Modelling the early to mid-Holocene Arctic climate

    Author : Marit Berger; Arne Johansson; Rodrigo Caballero; KTH; []
    Keywords : Arctic; early Holocene; mid-Holocene; climate modelling; paleoclimate; sea ice; climate change;

    Abstract : In the recent past it has become evident that the Earth's climate is changing, and that human activity play a significant role in these changes. One of the regions where the ongoing climate change has been most evident is in the Arctic: the surface temperature has increased twice as much in this region as compared to the global average, in addition, a significant decline in the Arctic sea-ice extent has been observed in the past decades. 2. 7. Paleoclimate perspective on Earth's climate sensitivity and feedbacks

    Author : Martin Renoult; Thorsten Mauritsen; Navjit Sagoo; Masa Kageyama; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Paleoclimate; Climate sensitivity; Climate feedbacks; Last Glacial Maximum; Pliocene; Snowball Earth; Emergent constraint; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi;

    Abstract : The addition of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere due to human activities is the main driver of global warming. How much the Earth will warm in the future is often represented by the Earth's equilibrium climate sensitivity (ECS), the long-term temperature response considering the effect of climate feedbacks after an abrupt and sustained doubling of atmospheric CO2 from pre-industrial concentration. 3. 8. Provenance of the pre-Quaternary aeolian dust deposits of East Asia

    Author : Katja Bohm; Thomas Stevens; Anu Kaakinen; Alex Pullen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chinese Loess Plateau; Red Clay; mineral dust; sediment provenance; detrital zircon; detrital rutile; Neogene; Paleogene; Earth Science with specialization in Physical Geography; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot naturgeografi;

    Abstract : Atmospheric mineral dust is a key component in the climate system, but its effect on and response to climate changes are poorly understood, especially over long timescales. This thesis investigates the sources of late Paleogene and Neogene dust deposits that formed under warmer-than-present global climates in the northern Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) region in mid-latitude East Asia. 4. 9. Seed dormancy and germination in an ecological context : comparative studies of annual weeds

    Author : Laila Karlsson; Per Milberg; Ken Thompson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Asteraceae; Bidens; Compositae; deadnettle; Galinsoga; germination timing; Guizotia; evolution; Labiatae; Lamiaceae; Lamium; morphophysiological dormancy; Papaveraceae; Papaver; Parthenium; physiological dormancy; poppy; summer annual; Tagetes; Verbesina; winter annual; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Germination ecology studies, i.e. studies of interactions between characteristics of the seeds and environmental circumstances, provide understanding of spatial and temporal patterns of emergence of wild species, as weeds in the field. A large number of species have seed dormancy, i. READ MORE

  5. 10. Glaciers and climate in northern Sweden during the 19th and 20th century

    Author : Per Klingbjer; Per Holmlund; Stig Jonsson; Anders Moberg; Georg Kaser; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : physical geography; climate; temperature; glacier; mass balance; jökulhlaup; responce time; photogrammetry;

    Abstract : Our understanding of the climate of northern Sweden during the late Holocene is largely dependent on proxy-data series. These datasets remain spatially and temporally sparse and instrumental series are rare prior to the mid 19th century. READ MORE
