1. Sources of dioxins and other POPs to the marine environment : Identification and apportionment using pattern analysis and receptor modeling
Abstract : In the studies underlying this thesis, various source tracing techniques were applied to environmental samples from the Baltic region. Comprehensive sampling and analysis of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in surface sediments in Swedish coastal and offshore areas resulted in a unique data set for this region. 2. From pattern to process : Studies on limestone grassland, with emphasis on the bryophyte-lichen layer and its effects on vascular plants
Abstract : Patterns in space and time at different scales in the bryophyte-lichen layer, aud multi-species spatial patterns of bryophytes, lichens and vascular plants were studied in Avenetum limestone grassland on the Great Alvar of the Baltic Island of Öland, south-eastem Sweden.Spatiotemporal patterns of bryophytes and Iichens in grazed and ungrazed alvar grassland demonstrated that dominant species forming large patches were relatively stable in time, whereas less frequent species forming small patches were more mobile. 5. The Sampling Pattern Cube : A Framework for Representation and Evaluation of Plenoptic Capturing Systems
Abstract : Digital cameras have already entered our everyday life. Rapid technological advances have made it easier and cheaper to develop new cameras with unconventional structures. The plenoptic camera is one of the new devices which can capture the light information which is then able to be processed for applications such as focus adjustments. READ MORE
