  1. 1. Computational Multiscale Modeling of Pearlitic Steel

    Author : Erik Lindfeldt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Multiscale modeling; homogenization; pearlite; crystal plasticity;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to investigate the possibilities to describe the mechanical behaviorof a pearlitic steel by using computational homogenization, or multiscale modeling. The proposed model contains three scales: the engineering macroscale, the mesoscale representing the colonies of the pearlite and the microscale containing the individual cementite lamellae and the ferrite matrix. 2. 2. Influence of combined thermal and mechanical loadings on pearlitic steel microstructure in railway wheels and rails

    Author : Dimitrios Nikas; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Low cycle fatigue LCF ; Wheel steels; Hardness; TEM; Thermal effects; EBSD; Rail steels; Pearlite; Multiaxial fatigue; Spheroidisation; Materials Science;

    Abstract : One of the most important aspects in railway operation is the interaction between rail and wheel. The contact patch between these two components is around the size of a small coin, and since high loads act on this small area, stresses will give rise to wear and damage in both components. 3. 3. On multiscale modeling of pearlitic steel

    Author : Erik Lindfeldt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cementite; crystal plasticity; Pearlite; multiscale modeling; computational homogenization; digital image correlation; ferrite; in-situ SEM;

    Abstract : By studying pearlitic steels using a scanning electron microscope it can be observed that pearlite is a two-phase material with cementite lamellae embedded in a matrix of ferrite. The cementite is commonly described as being stiff and brittle in comparison to the ferrite which is considered to have a soft and ductile mechanical behavior. READ MORE

  4. 4. Thermal Conductivity of Cast Iron: Influences of Microstructure on the Thermal Conductivity of Cast Iron

    Author : Daniel Holmgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; EBSD; Laser Flash Technique; Modelling; Spheroidal Graphite; Lamellar Graphite; Primary Austenite; Compacted Graphite; Pearlite; Ferrite; Thermal Conductivity;

    Abstract : The thermal transport properties of cast iron are important in high temperature applications,where the temperatures should be kept low and the thermal gradients within the componentsmall. Dimensional and microstructural changes, thermally induced stresses and even failuremight be catastrophic consequences of intense and/or unevenly distributed temperatures. READ MORE

  5. 5. Effects on Machinability due to Microstructure Variations in Case Hardening Steel

    Author : Karin Björkeborn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Machinability; Short-term test; Microstructure; Pearlite Nodular Size; Case Hardening Steel; Chip breakability.;

    Abstract : Typical products made of case hardening steel are transmission parts like gear wheels, pinions and crown wheels. Case hardening produces a carbon-rich surface and provides the parts with both enhanced hardness and fatigue life. READ MORE
