  1. 6. Bulk and interfacial properties of cellulose ethers

    Author : Rasmus Bodvik; Per M. Claesson; Orlando J. Rojas; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This work summarizes several studies that all concern cellulose ethers of the types methylcellulose (MC) hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) and ethyl(hydroxyethyl)cellulose (EHEC). They share the feature of negative temperature response, as they are soluble in water at room temperature but phase separate and sometimes form gels at high temperatures. READ MORE

  2. 7. Hydrophobic and superhydrophobic coatings for corrosion protection of steel

    Author : Lina Ejenstam; Per M. Claesson; Agne Swerin; Jinshan Pan; Orlando Rojas; KTH; []
    Keywords : Superhydrophobic coating; hydrophobic coating; corrosion protection; contact angles; electrochemical measurements; surface characterization; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Since metals in general, and steels in particular, are vital construction materials in our modern society, the corrosion protection of said materials is of great importance, both to ensure safety and to reduce costs associated to corrosion. Previously, chromium (VI) and other harmful substances were effectively used to provide corrosion protection to steel, but since their use was heavily regulated around year 2000, no coating has yet been developed that, in a fully satisfactory manner, replaces their corrosion protective properties. 3. 8. Mass Spectrometry with Electrospray Ionization from an Adjustable Gap

    Author : Patrik Ek; Åsa Emmer; Johan Roeraade; Per M. Claesson; Ulrika Nilsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electrospray ionization; mass spectrometry; nanoelectrospray; ESI; MS; chip; emitter; gap; liquid bridge; nozzle; peptides; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis the fabrication and analytical evaluation of two new electrospray emitters utilized for mass spectrometry analysis is presented. The emitters are based on a new concept, where the spray orifice can be varied in size. The thesis is based on two papers. All present-day nanoelectrospray emitters have fixed dimensions. READ MORE

  4. 9. Super liquid-repellent surfaces - interactions and gas capillaries

    Abstract :    With the advancement and accessibility of local probing techniques that can operate at the submicron scale it has become possible to analyse the local corrosion properties of industrially important metallic materials and relate these properties to microstructure characteristics of the same materials. In this doctoral study the focus has been on copper-zinc samples, both as industrial brass alloys and as micro-patterned copper-zinc samples. READ MORE
