1. Multifunctional nanostructured Ti-Si-C thin films
Abstract : In this Thesis, I have investigated multifunctional nanostructured Ti-Si-C thin films synthesized by magnetron sputtering in the substrate-temperature range from room temperature to 900 °C. The studies cover high-temperature growth of Ti3SiC2 and Ti4SiC3, low-temperature growth of Ti-Si-C nanocomposites, and Ti-Si-C-based multi¬layers, as well as their electrical, mechanical, and thermal-stability properties. 2. Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy of III-Nitride Semiconductors
Abstract : This Licentiate Thesis covers experimental and theoretical investigations of the bulk plasmon response to different compositions and strain states of group III-nitride materials. Investigated materials were grown using magnetron sputtering epitaxy and metal organic chemical vapour deposition and studied by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS). 3. Valence Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy of III-Nitride Semiconductors
Abstract : This doctorate thesis covers both experimental and theoretical investigations of the optical responses of the group III-nitrides (AlN, GaN, InN) and their ternary alloys. The goal of this research has been to explore the usefulness of valence electron energy loss spectroscopy (VEELS) for materials characterization of group III-nitride semiconductors at the nanoscale. 4. Identification of candidate genes involved in Mercury Toxicokinetics and Mercury Induced Autoimmunity
Abstract : BACKGROUND: Autoimmune diseases require the involvement and activation of immune cells and occur when the body builds up an immune response against its own tissues. This process takes place due to the inability to distinguish self-antigen from foreign antigen. Systemic autoimmunity represents an important cause of morbidity and mortality in humans. READ MORE

5. Long-Term Posttraumatic Stress in Survivors from Disasters and Major Accidents
Abstract : Disasters and major accidents are a significant cause of distress worldwide. High levels of posttraumatic stress can become chronic after severe and prolonged psychological trauma, raising concerns about the extent of adverse long-term consequences after single events. READ MORE
