  1. 1. Heterotopic Ossification : Clinical and Experimental Studies on Risk Factors, Etiology and Inhibition by Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs

    Author : Per-Erik Persson; Olle Nilsson; Per Aspenberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Heterotopic ossification; Hip prosthesis; NSAIDs; Prophylaxis; Prosthesis loosening; Reoperation; Animal model; Bone formation; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, occurrence of heterotopic ossification (HO) following total hip arthroplasty (THA) was studied. Preventive effects and complications with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) were analyzed. Experimental investigations on bone formation were employed to gain insight to the mechanism of NSAIDs action on bone.(I). READ MORE

  2. 2. On dynamic crack growth in discontinuous materials

    Author : Johan Persson; Per Gradin; Per Isaksson; Sverker Edvardsson; Pär Jonsén; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this thesis work numerical procedures are developed for modeling dynamic fracture of discontinuous materials, primarily materials composed of a load-bearing network. The models are based on the Newtonian equations of motion, and does not require neither stiffness matrices nor remeshing as cracks form and grow. READ MORE

  3. 3. Surface characterization of 2D transition metal carbides (MXenes)

    Author : Ingemar Persson; Per Persson; Justinas Palisaitis; Johanna Rosén; Vanya Darakchieva; Vincent Mauchamp; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Research on two-dimensional (2D) materials is a rapidly growing field owing to the wide range of new interesting properties found in 2D structures that are vastly different from their three-dimensional (3D) analogues. In addition, 2D materials embodies a significant surface area that facilitates a high degree of surface reactions per unit volume or mass, that is imperative in many applications such as catalysis, energy storage, energy conversion, filtration, and single molecule sensing. 4. 4. The Potential and Challenges of the Use of Dynamic Software in Upper Secondary Mathematics : Students’ and Teachers’ Work with Integrals in GeoGebra Based Environments

    Author : Sanela Mehanovic; Per Jönsson; Morten Blomhøj; Per-Eskil Persson; Morten Misfeldt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Abstract : An introduction of computer software into mathematics classrooms makes the didactical situation more complex compared with previous learning environments (Blomhøj, 2005). A technological tool becoming a mathematic work tool in the hands of the students is a process that has turned up unexpectedly complex (Artigue, 2002). READ MORE

  5. 5. Development of the Lund AMS Facility for the Detection of 59Ni – with Applications in the Nuclear Industry

    Author : Per Persson; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; AMS; Accelerator mass spectrometry; 59Ni; nuclear waste; chemical cobalt reduction; gas stripper; Nuclear engineering and technology; Kärnteknik; Fysicumarkivet A:2002:Persson;

    Abstract : Accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) is a highly sensitive method for counting atoms and it is used for detecting very low concentrations of both radionuclides and stable isotopes in small samples. The two major advantages of the AMS method are that the required amount of sample material is very small, but also that the efficiency is rather high, it takes less than an hour to analyse a sample.
