  1. 1. Conservation measures in Swedish forests : the debate, implementation and outcomes

    Author : Per Simonsson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In Sweden, a multi-scaled model for conservation of biodiversity in forests has been developed since the early 1990s. This model can be divided conceptually into three different levels; (i) retention forestry in the production forests; (ii) voluntary forest set-asides; and (iii) formally protected forests. 2. 2. Modelling and experimental evaluation of non-linear fatigue crack propagation in a ductile superalloy

    Author : Daniel Ewest; Per Almroth; Kjell Simonsson; Björn Sjödin; Daniel Leidermark; Sören Sjöström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Fatigue life evaluation is an important part in the design process of an industrial gas turbine. The fatigue life can be divided into crack initiation and crack propagation, and not to address the crack propagation part usually yields a non-conservative and overcomplicated design. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Use of Laboratory Analyses in Sweden : Quality and Cost-Effectiveness in Test Utilization

    Author : Mirja Mindemark; Anders Larsson; Lars-Olof Hansson; Per Simonsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; continuing medical education; cost control; cost savings; physician practice patterns; diagnostic tests; clinical chemistry; primary health care; health care costs; laboratory management; test utilization; trends; cost-effectiveness; inflammatory bowel disease; irritable bowel syndrome; calprotectin; cost avoidance; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; Biomedical Laboratory Science; Biomedicinsk laboratorievetenskap;

    Abstract : Laboratory analyses, essential in screening, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of disease, are indispensable in health care, but appropriate utilization is intricate. The overall aim of this thesis was to study the use of laboratory tests in Sweden with the objective to evaluate and optimize test utilization. READ MORE

  4. 4. A ΔJ approach for nonlinear fatigue crack propagation : Experimental and numerical investigation of a ductile superalloy

    Author : Daniel Nilsson; Per Almroth; Kjell Simonsson; Björn Sjödin; Daniel Leidermark; Sören Sjöström; Fredrik Borén; Johan Ahlström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ΔJ; Cyclic J-integral; Fatigue testing; Nickel-based superalloy; Thermo-mechanical fatigue; Elasto-plastic fracture mechanics;

    Abstract : This dissertation is a product of an academic-industrial collaboration between the Division of Solid Mechanics at Linköping University and Siemens Energy AB. The focus is on enhancing the design optimisation procedures for high-temperature components in industrial gas turbines (IGT). READ MORE

  5. 5. DNA-Controlled Lipid-Membrane Fusion

    Author : Lisa Simonsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; exocytosis; vesicles; DNA; FRET; fluorescence resonance energy transfer; model system; total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy; TIRF microscopy; self-assembly; site-specificity; diffusion; biomembranes; lipid bilayer; membrane fusion;

    Abstract : Membrane fusion is essential for nerve-cell communication, for protein transport between cell organelles and the cell-membrane and for enabling the merger between virus and host membranes during virus infection. We have demonstrated that short DNA oligonucleotides, membrane-attached via CH in an orientation that mimics the overall zipperlike architecture of fusion-inducing proteins, induce fusion of both suspended vesicles and vesicles site-specifically tethered to SLBs.
