11. The relationship between inflammation and structural changes in the airways of the lower and upper respiratory tract : Studies in patients with asthma, Sjögren's syndrome, rhinitis and children with otitis media with effusion
Abstract : The pathophysiology of asthma, Sjögrens syndrome (SS), rhinitis, and otitis media with effusion (OME) in children has been extensively investigated in upper and lower respiratory tract, respectively, and shown to comprise structural changes in the airways and involvement of inflammatory cells. By comparing diseases that have bronchial hyperresponsivenses or mucosal inflammation as a common denominator, it may be possible to learn more about the mechanisms underlying inflammation in the upper and lower respiratory tract. 12. Leaf- to field-level compound effects of warm and dry conditions on crops and potential mitigating strategies
Abstract : Ongoing climate change has been threatening global food security. Under climate change, increasing risk of hot and dry conditions (termed compound events) is projected in many agricultural regions. Compound events cause detrimental effects on crops, yet their effects have rarely been quantified based on modeling approach. READ MORE

13. Treatment of atopic asthma in primary health care guided by exhaled nitric oxide measurement
Abstract : Aims: The overall aims of this thesis were to increase knowledge about how patients with asthma rate their health and investigate if we can improve asthma management, with focus on asthma as a chronic inflammatory disease, by use of measurement of the fraction of exhaled nitric oxide (FENO) in monitoring of asthma in primary health care. Methods: Study I included data from a public health questionnaire, which was sent to 8,200 persons (age > 18 years) randomly selected from the population register in Stockholm County. READ MORE

14. Methods to study the relationship between forage composition and silage fermentation and aerobic stability
Abstract : This thesis is based on the following hypotheses: (I) under controlled ensiling conditions, forage chemical and microbial composition explain variation in silage end-product concentrations (II) sterilized forage inoculated with parent microflora gives similar fermentation result as untreated control forage and (III) this methodology enables studying interactions between forage source and field flora on silage fermentation and aerobic stability. Hypothesis (I) was evaluated by constructing regression models of end-products on common forage chemical variables (e. READ MORE

15. Interpreting Mysticism. An evaluation of Steven T. Katz's argument against a common core in mysticism and mystical experience
Abstract : In his 1978 article “Language, epistemology, and mysticism”, Steven T. Katz presents his theory of the interpretation of mystical experience reports in which the foundational epistemological claim is that “there are no pure experiences”. READ MORE
