  1. 1. Occupational exposure to fluorinated ski wax

    Author : Helena Nilsson; Jonathan W. Martin; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Perfluorinated; polyfluorinated; FIS; occupational exposure; ski wax; biotransformation; metabolism; fluorotelomer alcohol; fluorotelomer acid; aerosol; dust; UPLC MS-MS; GC MS-MS; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS) are used in the production of ski wax to reduce the friction between the snow and the ski. In this occupational study of ski wax technicians’ exposure to PFAS and particulate aerosol we have collected whole blood (wb) (n =94), air (n =84) and aerosol (n =159) samples at World Cup events from 2007-2011. 2. 2. Exposure to perfluorinated alkyl substances and health effects in pregnant women and their children

    Author : Matilda Ebel; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; perfluorinated alkyl substances; epidemiology; prenatal exposure; maternal health; child health; register studies;

    Abstract : Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) are chemicals that have gained attention during the last years. There are about 10,000 different PFAS compounds, and due to their unique chemical characteristics, PFAS has been used in a variety of industrial applications and household products since the 1950s. 3. 3. Environmental occurrence and fate of semifluorinated n-alkanes and perfluorinated alkyl acids present in ski waxes

    Author : Merle M. Plassmann; Urs Berger; Michael McLachlan; Crispin Halsall; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : Semifluorinated n-alkanes; Perfluorinated alkyl acids; ski waxes; snow; soil; fate; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Highly fluorinated organic compounds are emerging environmental contaminants of concern, due to their persistence, ubiquitous distribution, bioaccumulation potential and toxicity. Ski waxes are sources of highly fluorinated chemicals to the environment that have not been investigated so far. READ MORE

  4. 4. Analysis and human levels of persistent perfluorinated chemicals

    Author : Anna Kärrman; Gunilla Lindström; Bert van Bavel; Ulf Järnberg; Jessika Hagberg; Lennart Hardell; Derek Muir; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PFOS; PFOA; SPE; LC-MS; human exposure; Chemistry; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : An extensive use of perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) in the last 50 years has resulted in a worldwide spread of these persistent chemicals. Human populations are subjected to a large number of PFCs in ways that are not yet fully explained. READ MORE

  5. 5. Neonatal Exposure to Highly Brominated Diphenyl Ethers and Perfluorinated Compounds : Developmental Dependent Toxicity and Interaction

    Author : Niclas Johansson; Per Eriksson; Anders Fredriksson; Henrik Viberg; Hellmuth Lilienthal; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biologi; Ecotoxicology; ekotoxikologi;

    Abstract : This thesis investigated the developmental neurotoxic effects of neonatal exposure to highly brominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), alone or in combinations, during a critical period of the brains’ rapid growth and development, in mice. The compounds investigated were the decaBDE (PBDE 209), nonaBDE (PBDE 206), octaBDE (PBDE 203), heptaBDE (PBDE 183), and three PFCs, PFOS, PFOA, and PFDA. READ MORE
