1. ULTRASOUND STUDIES ON PELVIC FLOOR PHYSIOLOGY AND OBSTETRIC PERINEAL TEARS
Abstract : Repair of obstetric perineal tears is one of the most frequent procedures in surgical practice. Despite repair such tears may result in anal and urinary incontinence and prolapses of the pelvic floor, problems in need of surgical repair later in life. READ MORE

2. Pelvic Floor Dysfunction and Perineal and Vaginal Tears in Primiparous Women
Abstract : Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD), including urinary incontinence, faecal incontinence (FI), and pelvic organ prolapse, is highly prevalent among parous women. There is evidence that pregnancy, vaginal delivery, and obstetric perineal tears increase the risk of pelvic floor dysfunction, but many of the studies in this field are retrospective. READ MORE

3. Quantitative electromyographic studies of the perineal muscles in normal subjects and patients suffering from anal or urinary incontinence
Abstract : The aims of the study were to characterize the interference pattern in perineal muscles in healthy subjects with the use of quantitative EMG techniques, to evaluate if prostatic surgery had any effect on the interference pattern and furthermore to examine the interference pattern in the perineal muscles in patients suffering from urinary or anal incontinence. The interference pattern in the perineal muscles was examined with a computerized analysis, the Turns and Amplitude (T/A) analysis, and the innervation pattern of the muscles was examined with single fiber electromyography measuring the fiber density. 4. Clinical and methodological aspects on perineal laceration diagnostics at childbirth
Abstract : Background: Obstetric perineal lacerations are common after vaginal birth. The degree of obstetric perineal laceration is defined by the extent of tissue involved in the laceration. When a perineal laceration has occurred after vaginal delivery, the examination for correct diagnostics is essential before primary suturing. READ MORE

5. Perineal healing following abdominoperineal excision for rectal and anal cancer
Abstract : Abdominoperineal rectal excision (APE) may be indicated for distal rectal cancer and anal cancer patients. For many patients the extralevator APE (ELAPE) technique in which a larger part of the pelvic floor is removed is commonly used currently. Most patients in whom an APE is performed have received radiotherapy (RT) preoperatively. READ MORE
