  1. 1. Importance of peripheral arterial disease as a risk marker in patients with myocardial infarction

    Author : Birgitta Jönelid; Christina Christersson; Nina Johnston; Bertil Lindahl; Bertil Andrén; Lena Jonasson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Coronary heart disease; Peripheral artery disease; Polyvascular disease; Inflammatory biomarkers; TNFR-1; TNFR-2; GDF-15; Cardiovascular events.; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis was to describe the true prevalence of widespread arterial disease in a cohort with patients with a recent myocardial infarction (MI) to find valuable clinical methods to detect these patients. Our aim was also to investigate biomarker relationships with peripheral artery disease (PAD) and the importance of PAD in patients’ long-term outcomes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Popliteal Artery Aneurysm : Epidemiology, Surgical Management and Outcome

    Author : Hans Ravn; Martin Björck; Anders Wanhainen; Torben V Schroeder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Surgery; popliteal artery aneurysm; thrombolytic therapy; acute ischemia; surgical technique; long-term outcome; surveillance; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : Even if popliteal artery aneurysm (PAA) is the most common peripheral aneurysm, no single surgeon or institution has enough patients to study this disease with appropriate scientific methods, and no population-based investigation exists. PAA epidemiology, treatment, management, and outcome were studied in a population-based study of 571 patients (717 legs) primarily operated on for PAAs and 100 episodes of preoperative thrombolysis in Sweden between 1987 and 2002. 3. 3. Echocardiographic methods for assessment of coronary artery disease

    Author : Peter Blomstrand; Lars-Åke Brodin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Upright bicycle exercise echocardiography with digital image acquisition in seated position during exercise and in recumbent position before and immediately after exercise was performed in 66 men, one month after an episode of unstable coronary arte1y disease. It was difficult to obtain images of adequate quality during exercise but new or worsening of wall motion abnormalities not seen in recumbent position after exercise were detected at peak-exercise in patients with good image quality. 4. 4. Pro- and anti-inflammatory actions in coronary artery disease : with focus on CD56+ T cells and Annexin A1

    Author : Ida Bergström; Lena Jonasson; Eva Särndahl; Jan Ernerudh; Johan Frostegård; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : ¨The atherosclerotic process is considered to be driven by an imbalance between proand anti-inflammatory actions. Still, the inflammatory state in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) remains to be clarified. READ MORE

  5. 5. Detection of apoptosis in patients with coronary artery disease : Assessment of temporal patterns and potential sources

    Author : Aleksander Szymanowski; Lennart Nilsson; Lena Jonasson; Eva Swahn; Stefan Jovinge; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The atherosclerotic process and its consequences are considered driven by an imbalance between pro- and ant-inflammatory actions. One contributing factor in this scenario is an altered regulation of apoptosis, which affects both immune, vascular and myocardial cells. READ MORE
