  1. 21. Persistency, bioaccumulation and toxicity assessment of selected brominated flame retardants

    Author : Jenny Rattfelt Nyholm; Patrik L. Andersson; Peter Haglund; Mats Tysklind; Walter Vetter; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; persistence; bioaccumulation; toxicity; biodegradation; biotransformation; PBT; read across; soil; earthworm; zebrafish; copepod; BFRs; polybrominated diphenyl ethers; tetrabromobisphenol A; hexabromocyclododecane; hexabromobenzene; 2; 4; 6-tribromophenol; tetrabromobisphenol A; 2-hydroxyethyl ether; 1; 2-dibromo-4- 1; 2-dibromoethyl cyclohexane; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are chemicals used in e.g. electronic equipment, textiles and plastics for the prevention of fire. Over recent decades, concern has been raised regarding some heavily used BFRs, since the levels in the environment have been increasing. READ MORE

  2. 22. Comprehensive non-target screening to find and identify new biomagnifying organic contaminants in Baltic Sea top consumers

    Author : Andriy Rebryk; Peter Haglund; Christine Gallampois; Mats Tysklind; Jacob de Boer; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Baltic Sea; persistent organic pollutants; contaminants of emerging concern; non-target screening; GC-MS; biomagnification; temporal trends; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi; environmental science; miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The development of industrial processes in the 19th and 20th centuries, in particular oil refining, resulted in a huge discovery and subsequent large-scale production of a variety of chemicals. These useful chemicals supposedly made the everyday lives of people easier and better by, for instance, controlling the spread of diseases such as malaria, through the use of DDT and other organochlorine pesticides (OCPs). 3. 23. Bioavailability of organic contaminants in a changing climate

    Author : Matyas Ripszam; Peter Haglund; Roland Kallenborn; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate change; organic contaminants; sorption; dissolved organic carbon; bioavailability;

    Abstract : The effects of predicted future climate change was investigated with special emphasis on the association of organic contaminants with dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in the Baltic Sea.An automated method was developed for the measurements of DOC - water distribution constants at realistic DOC concentrations in brackish water. 4. 24. PLE with integrated clean up followed by alternative detection steps for cost-effective analysis of dixons and dioxin-like compounds

    Author : Erik Spinnel; Peter Haglund; Patrik Andersson; Tuulia Hyötyläinen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pressurized liquid extraction PLE ; PLE-C; modular PLE; ELISA; dioxin; dioxin-like compounds; GCxGC; analytical methods; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) are two structurally related groups of chemicals, generally referred to as `dioxins´. These are of great concern due to their high toxicity and global spread. READ MORE

  5. 25. New methods for determination of airborne pollutants : Focus on tetrabromobisphenol A, organophosphate triesters and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

    Author : Johanna Tollbäck; Ulrika Nilsson; Peter Haglund; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Air sampling; sampling methods; indoor air; SPE; SPME; extraction; dynamic extraction; online coupling; SWE; subcritical water extraction; GC MS; LC MS; organophosphate triesters; PAH; tetrabromobisphenol A; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns the development and evaluation of new methods of sampling and analysis of organic pollutants in the indoor and outdoor environment. In Paper I, the development of a new method was reported for the determination of the brominated flame retardant tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) in air using sampling with glass fiber filter and polyurethane foam (PUF), ultrasonic solvent extraction and liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (LC-ESI/MS).
