  1. 6. Trace analysis of dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs using comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography with electron capture detection

    Author : Conny Danielsson; Peter Haglund; Karin Wiberg; Jean-Marie Dimandja; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography; GC × GC; µECD; PCDDs; PCDFs; dioxins; dioxin-like PCBs; Pressurized liquid extraction; PLE; PLE-C; food; feed; fly ash; soil; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs), two groups of struc-turally related chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons, generally referred to as “dioxins” are of great concern due to their extreme toxicity and presence in all compartments of the environment. Since they occur at very low levels, their analysis is complex and challenging, and there is a need for cost-efficient, reliable and rapid analytical alternatives to the expensive methods in-volving use of gas chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry (GC-HRMS). Abstract : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs), two groups of structurally related chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons, are of high concern due to their global distribution and extreme toxicity. Since they occur at very low levels, their analysis is complex, challenging and hence there is a need for efficient, reliable and rapid alternative analytical methods. READ MORE

  3. 8. A Novel Miniaturised Dynamic Hollow-Fibre Liquid-Phase Micro-Extraction Method for Xenobiotics in Human Plasma Samples

    Author : Helena Hansson; Ulrika Nilsson; Bo Karlberg; Peter Haglund; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sample clean-up; human blood plasma; hollow-fibre liquid phase microextraction; supported liquid membrane extraction; SLM; HF-LPME; sample preparation; bioanalysis; liquid-liquid extraction; Chemistry; Kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Bioanalytical chemistry is a challenging field, often involving complex samples, such as blood, plasma, serum or urine. In many applications, sample cleanup is the most demanding and time-consuming step. READ MORE

  4. 9. Emissions of organic compounds from technosphere articles : Measurements and modeling of mass transfer from consumer goods and building materials to air and water

    Author : Tomas Holmgren; Peter Haglund; Martin Scheringer; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Emission; model; DINP; DINCH; TiBP; TPP; Vinyl flooring; flat screen displays; LCD screen; concrete; Abraham solvation parameters; Piringer equation; linear free energy relation;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the development of a generic model for predicting the emissions of organic compounds from materials used in the manufacture of various goods and products. Many products contain organic substances that are not bound to the matrix formed by their constituent materials and are thus able to dissociate from the material and become transferred into the surrounding environment. 5. 10. Route attribution of chemical warfare agents : Retrospective classification of unknown threat samples

    Author : Karin Höjer Holmgren; Johan Dahlén; Crister Åstot; Peter Haglund; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Impurity profiling; Chemical attribution signature; Route sourcing;

    Abstract : Although chemical warfare agents (CWAs) are prohibited under international law, there have been numerous crimes that violates the 1997 Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) during the last decade, especially in the civil war in Syria where sarin, mustard gas and chlorine have all been used. CWAs have also been used in political assassinations and attempts thereof. READ MORE
