  1. 1. Snow particle size investigations using digital image analysis - implications for ground observations and remote sensing of snow

    Author : Susanne Ingvander; Peter Peter Jansson; Matti Matti Leppäranta; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; snow; remote sensing; particle size; Antarctica; in-situ sampling; seasonal snow; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : During the past century climate warming has caused rapid changes in the Cryosphere. This has increased the need to accurately monitor rates of change in snow and ice in remote or sparsely populated areas where environmental observing capacity is limited. Monitoring snow cover requires understanding of the snow pack and the snow surface attributes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Holocene dynamics in subarctic peat plateaus of west-central Canada : Vegetation succession, peat accumulation and permafrost history

    Author : A. Britta K. Sannel; Peter Kuhry; Peter Jansson; Ian Brown; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; peatlands; permafrost; carbon accumulation; fire; subarctic; Holocene; Physical geography; Naturgeografi;

    Abstract : Dynamics in vegetation, permafrost and peat and net carbon accumulation rates throughout the Holocene have been studied in two subarctic peat plateaus of west-central Canada through plant macrofossil analysis, geochemical analyses and AMS radiocarbon dating. Peatland formation at the studied sites began around 6600-5900 cal yr BP as a result of paludification of upland forests. READ MORE

  3. 3. Temporal and spatial dynamics in subarctic peat plateaus and thermokarst lakes

    Author : A. Britta K. Sannel; Peter Kuhry; Peter Jansson; Ian A. Brown; Serge Payette; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : Peatlands; permafrost; subarctic; peat plateau; thermokarst lake; macrofossil analysis; carbon nitrogen ratio; peat accumulation; carbon accumulation; remote sensing; binary encoding; time-series analysis; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : Permafrost peatlands are widespread at high northern latitudes and are important soil organic carbon reservoirs. A future warming in these areas, as suggested by global climate models, can cause thawing and increased ground subsidence (thermokarst), resulting in changes in surface hydrology and ecosystem functioning. 4. 4. Studies of Nuclear fuel by means of Nuclear Spectroscopy Methods

    Author : Peter Jansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : This paper which is a thesis for the title teknologie licentiat is a summary text of several works performed by the author regarding spectroscopic measurements on spent nuclear fuel. Methods for determining the decay heat of spent nuclear fuel by means of gammaray spectroscopy and for verifying the integrity of nuclear fuel by means of tomography is presented. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies of Nuclear Fuel by Means of Nuclear Spectroscopic Methods

    Author : Peter Jansson; Roland Carchon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiation sciences; irradiated nuclear fuel; nuclear spectroscopy; tomography; safeguard; Strålningsvetenskap; Radiation biology; Strålningsbiologi; Kärnfysik; Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : The increasing demand for characterization of nuclear fuel, both from an operator and authority point of view, motivates the development of new experimental and, preferable, non-destructive methods. In this thesis, some methods based on nuclear spectroscopic techniques are presented. READ MORE
