    Author : Magnus Brändén; Peter Rich; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytochrome c oxidase; electron transfer; proton transfer; proton; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis describes results from studies on the mechanisms by which the enzyme cytochrome c oxidase catalyses the reduction of oxygen to water. Cytochrome c oxidase is the last integral enzyme complex of the socalled respiratory chain in the mitochondrial inner membrane (plasma membrane of bacteria). READ MORE

  2. 2. The Urban Tapestry : Essays on the Relationship Between Social Networks and Residential Segregation

    Author : Laura Fürsich; Maria Brandén; Benjamin Jarvis; Sarah Valdez; Peter Rich; Linköpings universitet; []

    Abstract : Dominant explanations of segregation argue that patterns of spatial residential sorting are shaped by the aggregation of individual residential choices, guided by discrimination, differences in resources, and preference-based explanations of neighborhood ethnic composition. However, research on social networks indicates that social influence can serve as a driver of collective outcomes that result in social organization. READ MORE

  3. 3. Assembly characteristics of xylan rich extracts from birch

    Author : Peter Westbye; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Xylan; Cellulose fibres; Adsorption; glucuronoxylan; Extraction; Aggregates; Solution properties;

    Abstract : The greenhouse effect is one of the most important environmental problems that mankind has to solve. One solution could be the utilization of biomass to create new materials and fuels. Traditionally wood has been used as timber and as a raw material for pulp and paper production. READ MORE
