  1. 1. Studies of Ultrafast Relaxation and Photodissociation Processes in Solution

    Author : Peter Salén; Peter van der Meulen; Jan Davidsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ultrafast spectroscopy; liquid phase; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on femtosecond studies of relaxation and photo-induced dissociation processes in the liquid environment. Measurements are performed using both polarization sensitive and magic angle transient absorption spectroscopy with excitation wavelengths of 387 nm and 258 nm and a white light continuum probe. 2. 2. Striving against adversity. : the dynamics of migration, health and poverty in rural South Africa

    Author : Mark A Collinson; Peter Byass; Gunnar Malmberg; Kathleen Kahn; Michael White; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; migration; temporary migration; permanent migration; refugee settlement; socioeconomic status; HIV transmission; adult mortality; child mortaality; returning to die; Epidemiology; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology; epidemiologi;

    Abstract :  Background: The study is based in post-apartheid South Africa and looks at the health and well being of households in the rural northeast. Temporary migration remains important in South Africa because it functions as a mainstay for income and even survival of rural communities. READ MORE

  3. 3. Inflammatory Response in Peripheral Arterial Disease

    Author : Peter Danielsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; muskelsystem; reumatologi; rheumatology locomotion; Skelett; Skeleton; Polymorphism; Metabolism; Prostacyclin; Microdislysis; Diabetes mellitus; Revascularisation; Angioplasty; Endothelial cells; White blood cells; Inflammation; Peripheral Arterial Disease; muscle system;

    Abstract : Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is the manifestation of atherosclerotic lesions in arteries supplying blood to the legs. Atherosclerosis is now recognized as an inflammatory disease of the vessel wall and important features in the pathophysiology are activation of WBC, endothelial cells and increased levels of inflammatory mediators. 4. 4. Analysis and development of strategies for magnetic resonance functional neuroimaging

    Author : Peter Fransson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : neuroimaging; human brain; functional activation; magnetic resonance imaging; cerebral blood oxygenation;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on strategies for oxygenation-sensitive MRI that are designed to measure alterations in brain physiology induced by changes in neuronal activity. In a first study, it was shown that the temporal evolution of BOLD MRI signal changes in response to both brief and sustained visual activation are equally well visible in FLASH and EPI recordings. 5. 5. Fatigue after traumatic brain injury : exploring novel methods for diagnosis and treatment

    Author : Nils Berginström; Anna Nordström; Peter Nordström; Lars Nyberg; Jan Lexell; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Traumatic brain injury; fatigue; OSU6162; randomized clinical trials; functional magnetic resonance imaging; neuropsychology; structural magnetic resonance imaging; white matter hyperintensities; rehabiliteringsmedicin; Rehabilitation Medicine;

    Abstract : Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the most common causes of disability and mortality. While some patients recover quickly, especially at the mild side of the injury severity continuum, many will experience symptoms for years to come. READ MORE
