  1. 1. Assessing Sub-Lethal Impacts of Petroleum Compounds on Marine Benthic Systems

    Author : Fredrik Lindgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; subletala effekter; mikrobiellt samhälle; meiofauna; petroleum; PAH; bildanalys;

    Abstract : Petroleum and its different distillates commonly end up in the marine environment. One source of these additions is discharges originating from shipping activities; accidents, ship wrecks, operational spills etc. READ MORE

  2. 2. Petroleum Production and Exploration : Approaching the End of Cheap Oil with Bottom-Up Modeling

    Author : Kristofer Jakobsson; Kjell Aleklett; Roger Bezdek; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The theme of this thesis is the depletion of petroleum (crude oil and natural gas). Are there reasons to be concerned about an ‘end of cheap oil’ in the near future? There is a lively debate regarding this issue. The debate is sometimes described as a clash of ‘concerned’ natural scientists and ‘unconcerned’ economists. READ MORE

  3. 3. Phytoremediation of soil contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons and trace elements

    Author : Charlotte Marchand; Hogland William; Hijri Mohamed; Bramryd Torleif; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Petroleum Hydrocarbon; Trace Elements; Gentle Soil Remediation Options; Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon; Respirometry; Ecopile; Bacteria; Fungi; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Abstract : The rapid urbanization and industrialization has led to an increase of disposal petroleum hydrocarbons (PHC) and trace elements (TE) into the environment. These pollutants are considered as the most toxic contaminants in the world due to their persistence in the environment, and the long range of toxicological effects for living beings. READ MORE

  4. 4. Energy savings for petroleum processing : Using mathematical models, optimal control and diagnostics

    Author : Esin Iplik; Konstantinos Kyprianidis; Ioanna Aslanidou; Mehmet Mercangöz; Mälardalens universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Petroleum products are widely used as an energy supply, and the total production capacity of petroleum refineries is quite high. In this thesis, an energy intensive refinery process, hydroprocessing, is selected and evaluated in terms of its energy loss contributors. Digital solutions are discussed and demonstrated to reduce losses. READ MORE

  5. 5. Thermal Modelling of the Caledonian Basin, Scandinavia and a Northern North Sea Profile

    Author : Jörgen Samuelsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; petroleum; vitrinite reflectance; thermal maturation; flexural rigidity; heat flow; suppression; thermal conductivity; North West Shelf; Alum Shale;

    Abstract : The reason for the registered high paleotemperatures of the Scandinavian Alum Shale was investigated by heat flow modelling constrained by vitrinite-like reflectance. The behaviour of the lithosphere under a load was modelled and the paleotemperatures were explained by burial of the Alum Shale in a foreland basin, developing during the Caledonian orogeny. READ MORE
