6. Deformation zones in models and nature
Abstract : Field studies encounter several complicating factors not studied in the models. Examples are oblique convergence, heterogeneous materials and thermal softening by intruding magmas. READ MORE

7. Thermodynamic study of the FeO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system : Data assessment and phase diagram calculation
Abstract : This dissertation consists of assessed thermodynamic properties for phases in the geologically and industrially important system Fe-Mg-Al-Si-O and calculated phase diagrams. Mathematical processing of different kinds of experimental data (phase equilibrium data, calorimetric, volumetric, thermophysical, electrochemical, activity data) is used to derive internally consistent thermodynamic database. 8. Mössbauer spectroscopy under high pressures and temperatures
Abstract : Iron plays a very important role in Earth materials. 57Fe- Mössbauer spectroscopy provides valuable information on the oxidation state and the near surrounding of iron atoms in crystal structures. READ MORE

9. Experimental Study of some Potassium and Sodium Bearing Aluminosilicates at High Temperatures and High Pressures
Abstract : This dissertation presents the results of a high-temperature and high-pressure experimental study of some abundant aluminositicates, which are the main repositories for the two geochemically important elements, sodium and potassium, in the Earth's crust. Phase transitions of end member alkali feldspars and jadeite clinopyroxene are studied at high and ultrahigh pressures corresponding to the conditions between the transition zone and the deep Earth's lower mantle. 10. Silicic Magma Genesis in Basalt-dominated Oceanic Settings : Examples from Iceland and the Canary Islands
Abstract : The origin of silicic magma in basalt-dominated oceanic settings is fundamental to our understanding of magmatic processes and formation of the earliest continental crust. Particularly significant is magma-crust interaction that can modify the composition of magma and the dynamics of volcanism. READ MORE
