  1. 6. Maternal Separation in the Rat : The Short- and Long-term effects of Early-life Experience on Neuropeptides, Monoamines and Voluntary Ethanol Consumption

    Author : Sadia Oreland; Ingird Nylander; Joram Feldon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Early-life stress; Handling; Serotonin; Dopamine; Oxytocin; Vasopressin; Enkephalin; Dynorphin; Two-bottle free choice; Maternal deprivation; Pharmaceutical pharmacology; Farmaceutisk farmakologi; Farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : Early-life experience has profound effects on the individual’s neurobiology and behaviour later in life. The rodent animal experimental model maternal separation (MS) was used to study this more in detail. The MS model involves short and prolonged postnatal separations simulating an emotionally safe and stressful environment, respectively. READ MORE

    Abstract : The neuropeptide Y (NPY) system consists of 3-4 peptides and 4-7 receptors in vertebrates. It has powerful effects on appetite regulation and is involved in many other biological processes including blood pressure regulation, bone formation and anxiety. READ MORE

  3. 8. Solid state characterisation and compaction behaviour of pharmaceutical materials

    Author : Christina Gustafsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; Solid-state; Tablet; Thermal analysis; Cellulose; Spectroscopy; NMR; NIR; FT-IR; Crystallinity; MVDA; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : In this thesis, factors important in tableting operations and for tablet properties have been studied and characterised by different spectroscopic techniques as well as by some more conventionally used particle characterisation techniques. The spectroscopic techniques solid-state NMR, FT-IR and NIR spectroscopy, proved to be valuable tools in the estimation of particle and tablet properties, offering both specificity and sensitivity in the measurements. 4. 9. Pharmaceutical binders and their function in directly compressed tablets : Mechanistic studies on the effect of dry binders on mechanical strength, pore structure and disintegration of tablets

    Author : Sofia Mattsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; Compaction; tablet; binder; pore structure; disintegration; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the strength-enhancing mechanisms of dry binders in direct compression were studied. The systems investigated were binary mixtures containing various compounds and binders. Among the binders used were a series of different molecular weights of polyethylene glycol. READ MORE

  5. 10. The Role of Cyclooxygenase-2 in Models of Epilepsy and Traumatic Brain Injury : Effects of Selective Cyclooxygenase-2 Inhibitors

    Author : Tina Kunz; Tadeusz Wieloch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Controlled cortical contusion injury; fluid percussion injury; limbic seizures; nuclear factor-kappa B; prostaglandin metabolism; TUNEL staining; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) catalyses prostaglandin synthesis from arachidonic acid during inflammation. COX-2 is expressed in the normal brain and is induced in neurological disorders. There is evidence that COX-2 is involved in secondary events leading to cell death in the brain. READ MORE
