  1. 1. Application of Artificial Gel Antibodies for the Detection and Quantification of Proteins in Biological Fluids

    Author : Nasim Ghasemzadeh; Fred Nyberg; Dom M. Desiderio; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Pharmaceutical biochemistry; Farmaceutisk biokemi; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Abstract : The molecular-imprinting method has previously been used for the synthesis of artificial gel antibodies, highly selective for various proteins. In present study, we have synthesized artificial gel antibodies against haemoglobin, albumin and different forms of growth hormone with the aim to develop a simple and rapid procedure to measure the concentration of these protein biomarkers in samples of clinical interest. 2. 2. Preparation of Pharmaceutical Powders using Supercritical Fluid Technology : Pharmaceutical Applications and Physicochemical Characterisation of Powders

    Author : Sitaram Velaga; Johan Carlfors; Kristiina Järvinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; Supercritical fluid; Gas Anti-Solvent; SEDS; Crystallisation; Particle design; Polymorphs; Dry powder inhalation; Solid-state behaviour; Therapeutic proteins; Precipitation; Stability; Recombinant human growth hormone hGH ; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci;

    Abstract : The main aim of the thesis was to explore the potential of supercritical fluid (SF) techniques in the field of drug delivery. In particular, the relatively recently developed solution-enhanced dispersion by supercritical fluids (SEDS) technology has been employed in the preparation of particles/powders. READ MORE

  3. 3. Interindividual Variability of Drug Transport Proteins : Focus on Intestinal Pgp (ABCB1) and BCRP (ABCG2)

    Author : Gunilla Englund; Per Artursson; Håkan Melhus; Andreas Kindmark; Joseph W Polli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; membrane transport proteins; ATP-Binding Cassette Transporters; P-glycoprotein; Breast Cancer Resistance Protein; Interindividual variability; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci;

    Abstract : The appearance of adverse drug reactions is a common reason for hospitalization in Western countries. Research on underlying biological mechanisms for interindividual variability in drug response aims to better identify patients with exceptional genetic traits, disease conditions or risk of drug-drug interactions and thereby help to prevent adverse drug reactions. 4. 4. Microgel Interactions with Peptides and Proteins : Consequence of Peptide and Microgel Properties

    Author : Ronja Widenbring; Martin Malmsten; Per Hansson; Catherine Picart; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Binding; Degradation; Enzyme; Gel; Hydrogel; Microgel; Peptide; Protein; Release; Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry; Farmaceutisk fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Microgels are lightly cross-linked hydrogel particles in the sub-micrometer to micrometer size range with a capacity to drastically change their volume in response to changes in the external environment. Microgels have an ability to bind and store substances such as biomacromolecular drugs, notably proteins and peptides, and release them upon stimuli, making them potential candidates as drug delivery vehicles and functional biomaterials. 5. 5. Cell line and protein engineering tools for production and characterization of biologics

    Author : Anna-Luisa Volk; Johan Rockberg; Mathias Uhlen; Dickson Alan; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Pharmaceutical proteins; precision medicine; antibody engineering; epitope mapping; cell line development; split-GFP; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Our increasing understanding of disease mechanisms coupled with technological advances has facilitated the generation of pharmaceutical proteins, which are able to address yet unmet medical needs. Diseases that were fatal in the past can now be treated with novel biological medications improving and prolonging life for many patients. READ MORE
