    Abstract : This thesis contains two manuscripts: Tumor Static Concentration Curves in Combination Therapy and Extending the Tumor Static Concentration Curve to Exposure - A Combination Therapy Example with Radiation Therapy. There is also an introductory chapter presenting some basic facts necessary to understand the appended manuscripts. READ MORE

  2. 12. Optimization of first-line anti-tuberculosis therapy in patients co-infected with HIV

    Author : Jesper Sundell; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tuberculosis; HIV; Pharmacokinetics; Pharmacogenetics; LC-MS MS; Individualized therapy;

    Abstract : Every year over one million people die from tuberculosis. People infected with HIV are significantly more vulnerable to tuberculosis, which is the leading cause of HIV-associated death. The first-line treatment for tuberculosis consists of rifampicin, isoniazid, pyrazinamide and ethambutol. READ MORE

  3. 13. Approaches to soft drug analogues of dihydrofolate reductase inhibitors : Design and synthesis

    Author : Malin Graffner Nordberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical chemistry; soft drug; dihydrofolate reductase; synthesis; Farmaceutisk kemi; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Organic Pharmaceutical Chemistry; Organisk farmaceutisk kemi;

    Abstract : The main objective of the research described in this thesis has been the design and synthesis of inhibitors of the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) intended for local administration and devoid of systemic side-effects. The blocking of the enzymatic activity of DHFR is a key element in the treatment of many diseases, including cancer, bacterial and protozoal infections, and also opportunistic infections associated with AIDS (Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, PCP). 4. 14. Drug Delivery to the Brain by Liposomes : Understanding Factors Governing Delivery Outcomes In Vivo

    Author : Yang Hu; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Teresa Dalla Costa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nanocarrier; liposome; blood-brain barrier; brain delivery; formulation; methotrexate; diphenhydramine; microdialysis; pharmacokinetics; model-based approach; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmakokinetik och läkemedelsterapi; Pharmacokinetics and Drug Therapy;

    Abstract : The blood-brain barrier (BBB) is the primary obstacle for efficient drug delivery to the central nervous system (CNS). One promising strategy to enhance brain delivery is to utilize nanocarriers (NC), e.g., liposomes, encapsulating CNS drugs. READ MORE

  5. 15. Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Modeling of Antibiotics and Bacterial Drug Resistance

    Author : Ami Fazlin Syed Mohamed; Lena Friberg; Teresa Dalla Costa; Uppsala universitet; []
