12. Cloning, Expression, Pharmacological Characterization and Anatomical Distribution of Melanocortin Receptors in an Evolutionary Perspective
Abstract : The melanocortin (MC) receptors are G-protein coupled receptors thatparticipate in several important physiological functions such as the regulation of the energy balance. This thesis focuses on the evolutionary aspect of the MC receptors and their pharmacology. One MC4 receptor and two MC5 receptor subtypes were found in a teleost fish, zebrafish. READ MORE

13. Inhaled pharmacological treatment and critical inhaler technique errors in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Abstract : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an inflammatory lung disease characterised by persistent respiratory symptoms and a high risk of exacerbations. Preventive and maintenance pharmacological treatment is primarily administered through handheld inhalers, which are available in several different device-drug combinations. READ MORE

14. Towards Pharmacological Treatment of Cystic Fibrosis
Abstract : S-nitrosogluthatione is an endogenous substance, present at decreased levels in the lungs of CF patients and was recently found to induce mature CFTR in airway epithelial CF cell lines. We show that S-nitrosoglutathione in physiological concentrations increases the presence of ΔF508 CFTR in the cell membrane and induces cAMP dependent chloride transport in cystic fibrosis airway epithelial cells. 15. Bioactive Compounds in the Chemical Defence of Marine Sponges : Structure-Activity Relationships and Pharmacological Targets
Abstract : Marine invertebrates, in particular sponges, represent a source of a wide range of secondary metabolites, many of which have been attributed various defensive capabilities against environmental stress factors. In this thesis sponge-derived low-molecular peptide-like compounds and associated analogs are investigated for bioactivity and pharmacological targets. READ MORE
