1. Control of Dynamically Assisted Phase-shifting Transformers
Abstract : In this thesis, controllers for power oscillation damping, transient stability improvement and power flow control by means of a Controlled Series Compensator (CSC) and and a Dynamic Power Flow Controller (DPFC) are proposed. These devices belong to the group of power system components referred to as Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices. READ MORE

2. Adaptive Programming of RFID Inlays in the Reactive Near Field
Abstract : Radio frequency identification (RFID) offers a vast variety of options to improve the functionality and efficiency in the automated data collection (ADC) industry and Internet of Things (IoT). In the inventory process of RFID with passive data carriers, a population of battery less tags is located in the working range of an interrogator system. READ MORE

3. Microwave CMOS Beamforming Transmitters
Abstract : The increase of the consumer electronics market the last couple of decades has been one of the main drivers of IC process technology development. The majority of the ICs are used in digital applications, and for these CMOS is the choice of technology. The urge to squeeze more transistors on to a given area has led to shrinking feature sizes. 4. Aspects on Dynamic Power Flow Controllers and Related Devices for Increased Flexibility in Electric Power Systems
Abstract : This thesis studies different aspects of Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices which are used to improve the power transfer capability and increase the controllability in electric power systems. In the thesis, different aspects on the usage and control of Dynamic Power Flow Controllers (DPFC) and related FACTS devices are studied. READ MORE

5. Differential Protection for Arbitrary Three-Phase Power Transformers
Abstract : This thesis describes how to provide standardized, current based, differential protection for any three-phase power transformer, including phase-shifting transformers with variable phase angle shift and transformers of all construction types and internal on-load tap-changer configurations. The use of standard transformer differential protection for such applications is considered impossible in the protective relaying standards and practices currently applied. READ MORE
