  1. 1. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease : clinical phenotyping, mortality and causes of death

    Author : Sami Sawalha; Anne Lindberg; Helena Backman; Nikolai Stenfors; Karin Lisspers; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; Phenotyping; chronic airflow obstruction; COPD; productive cough; pre- and postbronchodilator airway obstruction; co-morbidity; epidemiology; mortality; causes of death; sex; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Abstract : Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is common. The estimated prevalence is about 10% among adults, but varies largely dependent on the major risk factors age and smoking. Under-diagnosis of COPD is substantial and is related to disease severity. READ MORE

  2. 2. Monogenic Traits Associated with Structural Variants in Chicken and Horse : Allelic and Phenotypic Diversity of Visually Appealing Traits

    Author : Freyja Imsland; Leif Andersson; Gabriella Lindgren; Kerstin Lindblad-Toh; Eiríkur Steingrímsson; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Domestic animals have rich phenotypic diversity that can be explored to advance our understanding of the relationship between molecular genetics and phenotypic variation. Since the advent of second generation sequencing, it has become easier to identify structural variants and associate them with phenotypic outcomes. READ MORE

    Abstract : Adolescence is an important developmental phase with large changes in behavior, physiology and neurobiology, which transform an individual from immature child to independent adult. Due to these changes, adolescence is a sensitive period for exposure to environmental factors such as stress and drug exposure; it is also a common age of onset for alcohol consumption as well as several psychiatric disorders. 5. 5. Cytochrome P450 2C9 polymorphism : Interindividual differences in drug metabolism and phenotyping methodology

    Author : Umit Yasar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; CYP2C9 polymorphism; phenotyping; genotyping; diclofenac; losartan;

    Abstract : Cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) is one of the most important drug metabolizing enzymes in human liver. It catalyses the metabolism of a wide range of different drugs such as S-warfarin, acenocoumarol, losartan, irbesartan, phenytoin, sulphamethoxazole, tolbutamide, glipizide and numerous non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs.
