1. Approaches to Species Delineation in Anamorphic (mitosporic) Fungi : A Study on Two Extreme Cases
Abstract : Since the beginning of mycology, studies of species concept in fungi have been mainly based on morphology, partially due to the history of mycology as part of botany. Current advances in biochemical and molecular research have provided mycologists with powerful tools that can be used for delineation of fungal taxa. READ MORE

2. Lignocellulose Degradation by Soil Micro-organisms
Abstract : Lignocellulosic biomass is a sustainable resource with abundant reserves. Compared to petroleum ‐ based products, the biomass ‐ derived polymers and chemicals give better environmental profiles. A lot of research interest is focused on understanding the lignocellulose structures. READ MORE

3. Dieback of Fraxinus excelsior in the Baltic Sea Region : associated fungi, their pathogenicity and implications for silviculture
Abstract : This thesis is comprised of three main studies: (1) the wood-inhabiting fungi found in declining European ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.) and their pathogenicity; (2) the relationship between F. excelsior phenology, site density and the susceptibility to the dieback; and (3) the potential of natural regeneration of dieback affected ash stands. 4. Monitoring important soil-borne plant pathogens in Swedish crop production using real-time PCR
Abstract : The global demand for food will increase considerably in the nearest future and among the major constraints to agricultural productivity are biotic stresses caused by microorganisms. In this thesis, the causal agents of four of the most important soil-borne diseases threatening the Swedish production of oilseed rape, sugar beets and red clover were selected as targets for developing diagnostic assays using real-time PCR.
