  1. 1. LIPASES AND PHOSPHOLIPASES IN PHOSPHOLIPID SYNTHESIS

    Author : Carmen Virto; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; transphosphatidylation; acylation; vinyl ester; Phospholipid synthesis; lysophospholipid; kinetics; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : The synthesis of phospholipids with defined fatty acid and polar head composition catalysed by lipases and phospholipases was investigated. Lipases from Rhizopus arrhizus and Candida antarctica were used for the direct acylation of DL-a-glycerophosphate and L-a-glycerophosphatidylcholine, with different fatty acids. READ MORE

  2. 2. Synthesis, Characterisation and Properties of Biomimetic Biodegradable Polymers

    Author : Fredrik Nederberg; Tim Bowden; Nicola Tirelli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; biodegradable polymers; biomimetic; phospholipid-like; phosphorylcholine; amphiphilic; ionomer; hemocompatible; non-adhesive; water uptake; reduced protein adsorption; protein delivery; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : The acceptance of blood contacting implants creating favorable conditions in vivo is decisively determined by their interaction with proteins that mediate inter cellular interactions with synthetic substrates. Adsorbed proteins can activate blood cascade systems like coagulation and complement that may result in serious blood clots, and/or immunological reactions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Phosphorylated Monomolecular Layers : Design, Synthesis, Characterization and Application

    Author : Johan Ekeroth; Karin Caldwell; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the design, synthesis and characterization of organo-phosphatemonomolecular layers, so called self-assembled monolayers, using the strategy of linking organosulfur substances to a gold surface. Moreover there is also a paper included, which describes the development of synthetic pathways to various phospholipids, for which I have developed an interest in later projects. READ MORE

  4. 4. Apoptosis Regulation via the Mitochondrial Pathway : Membrane Response upon Apoptotic Stimuli

    Author : Marc-Antoine Sani; Gerhard Grobner; Antoinette Killian; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Apoptosis; BH4 peptide; Bax-α1 peptide; model membrane; cardiolipin; solid phase peptide synthesis; circular dichroism; solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.; Biophysics; Biofysik;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was the investigation of the mitochondrial response mechanisms upon apoptotic stimuli. The specific objectives were the biophysical characterization of membrane dynamics and the specific roles of lipids in the context of apoptotic regulation occurring at the mitochondrion and its complex membrane systems. 5. 5. Lipid Turnover in Plants and Yeast, A Study of Storage Lipid Synthesis and Lipid-Based Signalling in Plants and Yeast

    Author : Maria Gustavsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Växtbiokemi; Plant biochemistry; turnover; plasma membrane; plant; PLA2; biosynthesis; S. cerevisiae; triacylglycerol;

    Abstract : In this thesis, lipid biosynthesis is discussed focussing on the genes and enzymes involved in the final step of storage lipid synthesis, on the enzyme phospholipase A2, and on cell membrane lipid homeostasis. The investigation of lipid metabolism revealed that in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, there are four genes that are essential for the final step of storage lipid biosynthesis; ARE1, ARE2, DGA1, and LRO1.
