1. Stepping into Catalysis : Kinetic and Mechanistic Investigations of Photo- and Electrocatalytic Hydrogen Production with Natural and Synthetic Molecular Catalysts
Abstract : In light of its rapidly growing energy demand, human society has an urgent need to become much more strongly reliant on renewable and sustainable energy carriers. Molecular hydrogen made from water with solar energy could provide an ideal case. READ MORE

2. Treatment of organic pollutants in high salinity wastewater : new catalysis systems
Abstract : High salinity wastewater (HSW, NaCl mass fraction ≥ 1%) from industries and aquacultures contains massive organic matters with a wide variety. These organic matters have been considered as significant threaten to both human and environment. The removal and degradation of them before discharge emerge as necessity. READ MORE

3. The cyanobacterial pigments scytonemin and nostodione A - Synthesis, photophysicochemical behavior and biological studies
Abstract : The natural UV-screener scytonemin is found in a plethora of cyanobacterial species. Its UV-protective ability allows the bacteria to thrive in inhospitable locations exposed to intense solar radiation. Scytonemin has a dimeric structure consisting of two 1-1' linked 3-(4-hydroxybenzylidene)cyclopenta[b]indole-2-one moieties. READ MORE

4. (Photo)electrochemical Water Oxidation: From Catalysis to Functional Device
Abstract : The key challenge within artificial photosynthesis is achieving efficient electro- or photo-driven water oxidation catalysis, a necessary process to supply the protons for the reduction reactions, thereby enabling solar fuel production. To facilitate efficient water (photo)electrolysis for solar fuel production, this thesis focuses on two aspects: 1) elucidating the O-O bond formation mechanism and developing efficient, stable, and economical water oxidation catalysts (WOCs); 2) exploring stable, low-cost, light-absorbing photoanode materials that have suitable band structures and excellent charge diffusion properties. 5. Artificial Photosynthesis: Molecular Catalysts for Water Oxidation
Abstract : Artificial photosynthesis provides a promising solution to the future sustainable energy system. Water is the only suitably sufficient protons and electrons supplier by the reaction of water oxidation. However, this reaction is both kinetically and thermodynamically demanding, leading to a sluggish kinetics unless the introduction of a catalyst. READ MORE
