  1. 21. Observations of young core collapse supernova remnants

    Author : Anestis Tziamtzis; Lundqvist Peter; Sergey Zharikov; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; supernova remnants; Crab; SN 1987A; Astronomy; Astronomi; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : Studies of young remnants offer an opportunity to test theoretical models of stellar evolution, explosion models and nucleosynthesis, as well as our understanding of the compact objects in the centre of the exploded stars.The first part of the thesis involves observations of the Crab nebula. 2. 22. Mechanisms of alloxan diabetogenicity

    Author : Kjell Grankvist; Inge-Bert Täljedal; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alloxan; catalase; experimental diabetes; free radicals; islets of Langerhans; rubidium accumulation; superoxide dismutase; Trypan Blue;

    Abstract : Suspensions of pancreatic islet cells from ob/ob-mice were incubated with Trypan Blue. Microscope photometry showed that apparently viable cells excluded the dye completely, whereas the nuclei of non-viable cells accumulated Trypan Blue by a saturable process. READ MORE

  3. 23. Methods of Multi-Conjugate Adaptive Optics for Astronomy

    Author : Ralf Flicker; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Adaptive optics; anisoplanatism; laser guide stars; performance estimation; wavefront reconstruction; extremely large telescopes; optics; Electromagnetism; Elektromagnetism; acoustics; Astronomy; akustik; space research; optik; multi-conjugate; cosmic chemistry; Astronomi; rymdvetenskap; kosmisk kemi; Fysicumarkivet A:2003:Flicker;

    Abstract : This work analyses several aspects of multi-conjugate adaptive optics (MCAO) for astronomy. The research ranges from fundamental and technical studies for present-day MCAO projects, to feasibility studies of high-order MCAO instruments for the extremely large telescopes (ELTs) of the future. 4. 24. Bumpy light curves of interacting supernovae

    Author : Anders Nyholm; Jesper Sollerman; Peter Lundqvist; Nils Ryde; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; iPTF13z; supernova; SN; circumstellar medium; CSM; SN Type IIn; intermediate Palomar Transient Factory; iPTF; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : A supernova (SN) is the explosive destruction of a star. Via a luminous outpouring of radiation, the SN can rival the brightness of its SN host galaxy for months or years. READ MORE

  5. 25. MgB2 hot-electron bolometer mixers for sub-mm wave astronomy

    Author : Evgenii Novoselov; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hot-electron bolometer; gain bandwidth; noise bandwidth; thin film; electron-phonon interaction; noise temperature; THz detector; conversion gain; mixer; magnesium diboride; superconductor;

    Abstract : Spectroscopy and photometry in the terahertz (THz) range of remote space objects allows for a study of their chemical composition, because this range covers rotational lines from simple molecules and electron transition lines from atoms and ions. Due to high spectral resolution, THz heterodyne receivers al- low for studying dynamical properties of space objects manifested in doppler-shifted emission lines. READ MORE
