21. Optical Parametric Devices in Periodically Poled LiTaO3
Abstract : Optical parametric frequency conversion based on quasi phase matching (QPM) in nonlinear optical crystals is a powerful technique for generating coherent radiation in wavelength ranges spanning from the mid-infrared (mid-IR) to the blue, displaying low thermal load and high efficiency. This thesis shows how QPM in one- (1D) or two-dimensional (2D) lattices can be employed to engineer novel devices for parametric downconversion in the IR, af-fording freedom in designing both spectral and angular properties of the parametric output. 22. Light manipulation in micro and nano photonic materials and structures
Abstract : Light manipulation is an important method to enhance the light-matter interactions in micro and nano photonic materials and structures by generating usefulelectric field components and increasing time and pathways of light propagationthrough the micro and nano materials and structures. For example, quantum wellinfrared photodetector (QWIP) cannot absorb normal incident radiation so thatthe generation of an electric field component which is parallel to the original incident direction is a necessity for the function of QWIP. 23. Silicon photonic MEMS building blocks for low-power programmable circuits
Abstract : Silicon photonics, or the confinement and control of light in integrated silicon waveguides, has rapidly grown from research labs to high-end chips for telecommunications. With the associated improvements in waveguide performance, the technology is promising for a wide range of new applications, from computing to sensing. READ MORE
