  1. 6. Modulation of retinal progenitors : A bird’s-eye view of retinal regeneration and disease

    Author : Dardan Konjusha; Finn Hallböök; Rusty Lansford; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental neurobiology; Retinoblastoma; MYCN; Cone photoreceptor; Nolz1; Endothelin; Müller cells;

    Abstract : The cell populations of the retina and their intricate organization provide us with one of the most important senses – vision. All retinal cell populations are derived from a common progenitor pool as a result of tight regulation of proliferation, differentiation, dedifferentiation, and programmed cell death. READ MORE

  2. 7. Photoreceptor degeneration, second order neuron remodeling and glia reactivity in an in vivo and in vitro model of retinal neurodegeneration

    Author : Tanzina Mollick; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Abstract : Photoreceptors have the ability to last during the entire lifespan of an individual. Being the first line of neurons in the visual transduction pathway, their health and maintenance is eminent for proper retinal function. However, photoreceptors are susceptible to neurodegenerative retinal dystrophies. READ MORE

  3. 8. Photoreceptors in experimental retinal cell transplants

    Author : Bengt Juliusson; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; immunohistochemistry; mice; rabbits; rats; interphotoreceptor matrix; retinal pigment epithelium; photoreceptors; Retina; transplantation; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : The main objective of this thesis was to investigate the fate of photoreceptor cells when using different strategies for retinal cell transplantation. Comparing transplantation of fragments of embryonic retina with cell suspensions of the same tissue we found that transplantation of fragments of embryonic retina result in mature transplants with a higher degree of cellular organization than transplantation of cell suspensions of embryonic retina. 4. 9. Studies into The Mechanisms of Neurodegeneration and Neuroprotection in Rd1 Mouse Retina

    Author : Seifollah Azadi; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; signaling pathway ; Ophtalmology; neurotrophic factors ; Oftalmologi; retina degeneration ;

    Abstract : Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) is a group of uncured retinal diseases with the world wide incidence of about 1/3500. In spite of the huge efforts in past years, the mechanisms underlying this type of hereditary blindness has not been elucidated and nor any effective treatment available. READ MORE

  5. 10. Blue light induced retinal damage

    Author : Jiangmei Wu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Visual perception results from a response to radiation between 400 and 760 mu reaching the retina. Photoreceptor cells are differentiated post-mitotic retinal neurons uniquely adapted for the efficient capture of photons and for the initiation of visual transduction. READ MORE
