  1. 16. Beyond Classical Ruthenium(II) Polypyridyl Complexes : Photosensitizers as Building Blocks For Linear Donor-Photosensitizer-Acceptor Assemblies

    Author : Michael Jäger; Olof Johansson; Edwin Constable; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes ruthenium(II) polypyridyl-type complexes tailored for artificial photosynthesis. Inspired by Nature, the primary events in photosystem II are mimicked by donor-photosensitizer-acceptor (D-P-A) assemblies. READ MORE

  2. 17. Enhancing UV-protection of clear coated wood by utilizing reactive UV-absorber and epoxyfunctionalized soybean oil

    Author : Sara Olsson; Mats KG Johansson; Emma Östmark; Mats Westin; Philip Evans; Minna Hakkarainen; Peter Weissenborn; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; UV-protaction; wood; clear coating; UV absorber; epoxy functionalized soybean oil; grafting;

    Abstract : This work presents the development of a new pretreatment for clear coated wood, that aims to increase the photoprotection of exterior wood products, and at the same time make the system more environmentally friendly. The pretreatment comprises the reactive UV absorber 2-hydroxy-4(2,3-epoxypropoxy)-benzophenone (HEPBP), which has a primary epoxy group that can be covalently attached to the hydroxyl groups of the wood substrate. 3. 18. Light-Induced Yellowing of High-Yield Pulps. The Effect of Acetylation

    Author : Magnus Paulsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; yellowing; mechanical properties; hydroxyl groups; phenolic groups; paper; high-yield pulps; chromophores; model compounds; acetylation; inhibition;

    Abstract : This thesis is a contribution to the understanding of the mechanism of photoyellowing of high-yield pulps. It also gives some general information about the reactivity of different functional groups in lignin towards acetic anhydride. READ MORE

  4. 19. Ultrafast Photoinduced Processes in Core and Core–Shell Quantum Dots for Solar Cell Applications “Tiny Crystals for Big Applications”

    Author : Mohamed Qenawy; Kemisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum dots; core–shell; electron injection; hole injection; hole trapping; exciton migration; solar cells; ultrafast dynamics; time-resolved spectroscopy.;

    Abstract : The balance between our demands of energy and the energy we are consuming is not in equilibrium anymore. Therefore, the search for other energy resources is indispensable. Sustainable energy sources offer the alternative to the fossil fuels. READ MORE

  5. 20. Super resolution optical imaging – image analysis, multicolor development and biological applications

    Author : Daniel Rönnlund; Jerker Widengren; Christian Eggeling; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stimulated emission depletion STED microscopy; nanoscopy; multicolor; image analysis; diagnostics; cancer; metastasis; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on super resolution STED optical imaging. STED provides a wealth of new informational content to the acquired images by using stimulated emission to surpass the diffraction limit in optical fluorescence microscopy. READ MORE
