  1. 1. Evolution of the Biodiversity Hotspot of Madagascar from the Eye of Diving Beetles : Phylogeny, colonization and speciation

    Author : Rasa Bukontaite; Johannes Bergsten; Ingi Agnarsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dytiscidae; diving beetles; Biogeography; Phylogeny; Dating; phylogenetic informativeness; colonization; speciation; microendemism; Madagascar; Systematic Zoology; systematisk zoologi;

    Abstract : Dytiscidae, contains numerous endemic and non-endemic species on Madagascar. Their evolutionary history is largely unknown on the island. Herein, I use analyses to infer phylogenetic relationship among groups of diving beetles, with a focus on the subfamily Dytiscinae and endemic species in two other groups of Dytiscidae. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Biodiversity of Hydrogenases in Frankia : Characterization, regulation and phylogeny

    Author : Melakeselam Leul Zerihun; Anita Sellstedt; Kornel Kovács; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biodiversity; Frankia; immunoblotting; gene expression; uptake hydrogenase; hydrogen-evolving hydrogenase; nickel; phylogeny; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : All the eighteen Frankia strains isolated from ten different actinorhizal host plants showed uptake hydrogenase activity. The activity of this enzyme is further increased by addition of nickel. Nickel also enhanced the degree of hydrogenase transfer into the membranes of Frankia, indicating the role of this metal in the processing of this enzyme. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Gene Repertoire of G protein-coupled Receptors : New Genes, Phylogeny, and Evolution

    Author : Þóra Kristín Bjarnadóttir; Helgi B. Schiöth; Robert Fredriksson; Kurt Kristiansen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; Bioinformatics; Evolution; GPCR; Phylogeny; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning;

    Abstract : The superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) is one of the largest protein families of mammalian genomes and can be divided into five main families; Glutamate, Rhodopsin, Adhesion, Frizzled, and Secretin. GPCRs participate in most major physiological functions, contributing to the fact that they are important targets in drug discovery. READ MORE

  4. 4. Taxonomy and phylogeny of polychaetes

    Author : Jenny Eklöf; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : Polychaeta; Phyllodocidae; Alciopidae; pelagic polychaetes; phylogeny; cryptic species;

    Abstract : Polychaetes are a large group of segmented worms that display an enormous morphological diversity. Molecular data has shown in recent years that groups previously thought to be separate from polychaetes are actually part of the group. READ MORE

  5. 5. Gastrotricha of Sweden - Biodiversity and Phylogeny

    Author : Tobias Kånneby; Ulf Jondelius; M. Antonio Todaro; Sven Boström; Rick Hochberg; Naturhistoriska riksmuseet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; taxonomy; systematics; phylogeny; new species; cryptic species; Chaetonotidae; Dasydytidae; Thaumastodermatidae; Livets mångfald; Diversity of life; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Abstract : Gastrotricha are small aquatic invertebrates with approximately 770 known species. The group has a cosmopolitan distribution and is currently classified into two orders, Chaetonotida and Macrodasyida. The gastrotrich fauna of Sweden is poorly known: a couple of years ago only 29 species had been reported. READ MORE
