  1. 1. Evolution of the Biodiversity Hotspot of Madagascar from the Eye of Diving Beetles : Phylogeny, colonization and speciation

    Author : Rasa Bukontaite; Johannes Bergsten; Ingi Agnarsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dytiscidae; diving beetles; Biogeography; Phylogeny; Dating; phylogenetic informativeness; colonization; speciation; microendemism; Madagascar; systematisk zoologi; Systematic Zoology;

    Abstract : Dytiscidae, contains numerous endemic and non-endemic species on Madagascar. Their evolutionary history is largely unknown on the island. Herein, I use analyses to infer phylogenetic relationship among groups of diving beetles, with a focus on the subfamily Dytiscinae and endemic species in two other groups of Dytiscidae. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Biodiversity of Hydrogenases in Frankia : Characterization, regulation and phylogeny

    Author : Melakeselam Leul Zerihun; Anita Sellstedt; Kornel Kovács; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biodiversity; Frankia; immunoblotting; gene expression; uptake hydrogenase; hydrogen-evolving hydrogenase; nickel; phylogeny; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : All the eighteen Frankia strains isolated from ten different actinorhizal host plants showed uptake hydrogenase activity. The activity of this enzyme is further increased by addition of nickel. Nickel also enhanced the degree of hydrogenase transfer into the membranes of Frankia, indicating the role of this metal in the processing of this enzyme. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Gene Repertoire of G protein-coupled Receptors : New Genes, Phylogeny, and Evolution

    Author : Þóra Kristín Bjarnadóttir; Helgi B. Schiöth; Robert Fredriksson; Kurt Kristiansen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; Bioinformatics; Evolution; GPCR; Phylogeny; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning;

    Abstract : The superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) is one of the largest protein families of mammalian genomes and can be divided into five main families; Glutamate, Rhodopsin, Adhesion, Frizzled, and Secretin. GPCRs participate in most major physiological functions, contributing to the fact that they are important targets in drug discovery. READ MORE

  4. 4. Taxonomy and phylogeny of polychaetes

    Author : Jenny Eklöf; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Polychaeta; Phyllodocidae; Alciopidae; pelagic polychaetes; phylogeny; cryptic species;

    Abstract : Polychaetes are a large group of segmented worms that display an enormous morphological diversity. Molecular data has shown in recent years that groups previously thought to be separate from polychaetes are actually part of the group. READ MORE

  5. 5. Phylogeny and macroevolution in Isoetes (Isoetales)

    Author : Eva Larsén; Catarina Rydin; Niklas Wikström; Ove Eriksson; Richard Bateman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bayesian inference; biogeography; Cenozoic; genomic data; fossil calibration; Isoetes; Isoetales; megaspore morphology; Mesozoic; molecular clocks; node ages; phylogeny; rhizomorphic lycopsids; scanning electron microscopy; Plant Systematics; växtsystematik;

    Abstract : This thesis has focused on the evolutionary history of Isoetes (Isoetales, Lycopsida), its phylogeny, megaspore morphology and evolutionary path through deep time. With a broadened sampling of species to include more of the worldwide diversity of the genus compared to previous work an unexpected sister to the rest of the genus was found. READ MORE
