  1. 1. Studies of the Carbon and Energy Metabolism in the Moss Physcomitrella patens

    Author : Anders Nilsson; Hans Ronne; Leszek Kleczkowski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hexokinase; SnRK1; sugar signaling; carbon metabolism; Physcomitrella patens; shuttle vector; subcellular localization; model organism; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Since a proper balance between anabolic and catabolic reactions is essential for all eukaryotes, the basic mechanisms for regulation of the energy and carbon metabolism have been conserved throughout evolution. The moss Physcomitrella patens, which belongs to one of the basal clades among land plants, has many unique properties that make it an excellent plant model system. READ MORE

  2. 2. Phosphatidylinositol phosphate kinases in the moss Physcomitrella patens

    Author : Laura Saavedra; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Phosphatidylinositol(4,5)bisphosphate, [PtdIns(4,5)P2], is a signalling lipid which is involved in many important processes in animal cells such as cytoskeleton organization, intracellular vesicular trafficking, secretion, cell motility, regulation of ion channels, and nuclear signalling pathways. In contrast to the animal field, much less is known about the roles of PtdIns(4,5)P2 and its synthesizing enzyme, phosphatidylinositol phosphate kinase (PtdInsP kinase), in plants. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies on Natural Variation and Evolution of Photoperiodism in Plants

    Author : Karl Holm; Ulf Lagercrantz; Martin Lascoux; Seth Jon Davis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : photoperiodism; circadian; flowering time; natural variation; evolution; Caspella bursa-pastoris; Physcomitrella patens; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär funktionsgenomik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Functional Genomics;

    Abstract : Photoperiodism refers to the organism’s ability to detect and respond to seasonal changes in the daily duration of light and dark and thus constitutes one of the most significant and complex examples of the interaction between the organism and its environment. This thesis attempts to describe the prevalence of variation in a photoperiodic response, its adaptive value, and its putative genetic basis in a common cruciferous weed, Capsella bursa-pastoris (Brassicaceae). 4. 4. Plant Major Intrinsic Proteins - natural variation and evolution

    Author : Jonas Danielson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MIP; aquaporin; plant; natural variation; evolution; Arabidopsis; Physcomitrella patens; NIP; XIP;

    Abstract : Major Intrinsic Proteins (MIPs, also called Aquaporins, AQPs) are channel forming membrane proteins. Although initially functionally characterized and named after their water channeling property in human red blood cells, it has become increasingly evident that MIPs are present in all types of organisms and transport a variety of small, uncharged molecules besides water. 5. 5. Functional studies of plant hexokinases and development of genetic methods in the moss Physcomitrella patens

    Author : Mikael Ulfstedt; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In the field of biology, model systems are frequently used for practical reasons. Model organisms possess several features that make them easy to work with in a laboratory setting. In addition they usually have a host of established genetic tools that have been developed by the research community. READ MORE
