    Abstract : The identity of dark matter is one of the key outstanding problems in both particle and astrophysics. In this thesis, I describe a number of complementary searches for particle dark matter. READ MORE

  2. 2. Black holes and trapped surfaces

    Author : Emma Jakobsson; Ingemar Bengtsson; István Rácz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : The study of black holes is an important part of general relativity. However, the very definition of black holes is not completely satisfactory. Alternative definitions are based on the concept of trapped surfaces. This licentiate thesis is based on work with the aim to better understand the behaviour of such trapped surfaces. READ MORE

  3. 3. Phenomenology of Inert Scalar and Supersymmetric Dark Matter

    Author : Erik Lundström; Joakim Edsjö; Lars Bergström; Michel Tytgat; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Dark matter; inert scalars; supersymmetry; indirect detection; accelerator searches; Physics; Fysik; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : While the dark matter has so far only revealed itself through the gravitational influence it exerts on its surroundings, there are good reasons to believe it is made up by WIMPs – a hypothetical class of heavy elementary particles not encompassed by the Standard Model of particle physics. The Inert Doublet Model constitutes a simple extension of the Standard Model Higgs sector. READ MORE

  4. 4. From Branes to Brains : On M-theory and Understanding Thermodynamics

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with research in both physics and physics education, and is divided into two parts.Part IString theory has been the leading candidate over the past few years for a theory that unifies all the fundamental forces of nature. READ MORE

  5. 5. Calibration of b-tagging and search for Dark Matter : Calibration of b-tagging efficiency and search for Dark Matter production in association with heavy flavour quarks with the ATLAS experiment
