  1. 1. Isomeric yield ratio measurements with JYFLTRAP : In quest of the angular momentum of the primary fragments

    Author : Vasileios Rakopoulos; Mattias Lantz; Stephan Pomp; Andreas Solders; José Benlliure; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; nuclear fission; angular momentum; fission fragments; isomeric yield ratios; fission products; scission; Penning trap.; Physics with specialization in Nuclear Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot kärnfysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, isomeric yield ratios of twenty nuclides produced in the fission of natU and 232Th by protons at 25-MeV and natU by high-energy neutrons were studied. The experiments were performed at the IGISOL-JYFLTRAP facility at the University of Jyväskylä. READ MORE

  2. 2. Hadron Physics in a Polarized World : Exploring Electromagnetic Interactions with Spin Observables

    Author : Viktor Thorén; Andrzej Kupsc; Karin Schönning; Magnus Wolke; David Ireland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hadron; Hyperon; Meson; Polarization; Spin observables; Electromagnetic interactions; BESIII; Fysik med inriktning mot kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : The electromagnetic interactions of hadrons serve as a valuable probe of the nature of the strong force at low energies and simultaneously allow for tests of fundamental discrete symmetries. In this thesis, I show how polarization observables can be used to gain an in-depth understanding of these processes and present two analyses of data from the BESIII experiment where such observables have been studied. 3. 3. Exploring the Merits and Challenges of Hyperon Physics : with PANDA at FAIR

    Author : Walter Ikegami Andersson; Karin Schönning; Michael Papenbrock; Tord Johansson; Volker Crede; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hadron physics; Hyperon; Track reconstruction; Non-perturbative QCD; Spin observables; PANDA; Fysik med inriktning mot kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : Binary hyperon production in antiproton-proton annihilations will be carried out with the PANDA experiment at FAIR, and probes the strong interaction in the non-perturbative regime where the relevant degrees of freedom are unclear. The self-analyzing decays of hyperons provide a straightforward way to study reaction dynamics via the measurement of spin observables. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies of Cherenkov light production in irradiated nuclear fuel assemblies

    Author : Erik Branger; Sophie Grape; Anders Hjalmarsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DCVD; Cherenkov light; Geant4; Nuclear fuel; Nuclear safeguards; Fysik med inriktning mot tillämpad kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Applied Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : The Digital Cherenkov Viewing Device (DCVD) is an instrument used by authority inspectors to assess irradiated nuclear fuel assemblies in wet storage for the purpose of nuclear safeguards. Originally developed to verify the presence of fuel assemblies with long cooling times and low burnup, the DCVD accuracy is sufficient for partial defect verification, where one verifies that part of an assembly has not been diverted. 5. 5. Towards Realistic Hyperon Reconstruction in PANDA : From Tracking with Machine Learning to Interactions with Residual Gas

    Author : Adeel Akram; Karin Schönning; Michael Papenbrock; Carl Nettelblad; Andreas Salzburger; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hyperons; Clusterjet Target; Tracking; Graph Neural Networks; Deep Learning; Physics with specialization in Nuclear Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot kärnfysik;

    Abstract : The PANDA (anti-Proton ANnihilation at DArmstadt) experiment at FAIR (Facility for Anti-proton and Ion Research) aims to study strong interactions in the confinement domain. In PANDA, a continuous beam of anti-protons will impinge on a fixed hydrogen target inside the High Energy Storage Ring (HESR), a feature intended to attain high interaction rates for various physics studies e.
