  1. 1. Alpha-2 Adrenergic Receptors and Signal Transduction Effector Output in Relation to G-Protein Coupling and Signalling Cross-Talk

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Johnny Näsman; Peter Evans; [2001]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; Adrenergic; receptor; G-protein; adenylyl cyclase; cAMP; calcium; cross-talk; Fysiologi och anatomi; MEDICINE Physiology and pharmacology; MEDICIN Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : The alpha-2 adrenergic receptor (α2-AR) subfamily includes three different subtypes, α2A-, α2B- and α2C-AR, all believed to exert their function through heterotrimeric Gi/o-proteins. The present study was undertaken in order to investigate subtype differences in terms of cellular response and to explore other potential signalling pathways of α2-ARs. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development and validation of a localized murine candidiasis model : The pathogenesis, chemotheraphy and defense mechanisms to Candida mastitis in the lactating mouse

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Faisal Abdi Guhad; [1999]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; Murine model; Candida albicans; Pathogenesis; Virulence factors; Amphotericin B; Fluconazole; Complement activation; C3c; SCID mice; Nude mice; Fysiologi och anatomi; MEDICINE Physiology and pharmacology; MEDICIN Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : A murine model of localized candidiasis (mastitis) was developed. The model was analyzed withrespect to its discriminative abilities through investigation of the virulence properties of C.albicans mutant strains compared with the wild-type parental strain. READ MORE

  3. 3. Aspects of aqueous humor dynamics : Studies in vivo and in vitro

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Maria Samuelsson-Almén; [1999]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; Aqneous humor flow; intraocular pressure; adenylate cyclase; nonpigmented ciliary epithelium; pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide; vasoactive intestinal polypeptide; dopamine; prostaglandin; Fysiologi och anatomi; MEDICINE Physiology and pharmacology; MEDICIN Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : The purpose of the present investigation was to study the effects of PGF2α-l-isopropylester, some neuropeptides, and pharmacological agents on aqueous humor dynamics and intraocular pressure (IOP) in vivo and on adenylate cyclase activity in the nonpigmented ciliary epithelium (NPE) in vitro.Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) caused a dose-dependent increase in cAMP formation, indicating that the NPE contains receptors for PACAP and VIP coupled to adenylate cyclase activation. 4. 4. Retinal glucose metabolism and blood flow : Effects of photic stimulation

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Lin Wang; [1997]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; blood flow; darkness; flicker; glucose oxidation; glycolysis; lactate; light; nitric oxide; optic nerve; retina; Fysiologi och anatomi; MEDICINE Physiology and pharmacology; MEDICIN Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : Retinal glucose metabolism was investigated under different light conditions in cats,pigs and rabbits. Glycolysis and glucose oxidation in the outer and inner parts of theretina were assessed by determining arteriovenous concentration differences foroxygen, glucose and lactate, as well as local blood flow. 5. 5. Gastric gland luminal pressure and mucosal protection : An in vivo study in the anesthetized rat

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Ingrid Synnerstad; [1997]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; acid secretion; bicarbonate; epithelial cell surface pH; gastric gland; muscularis mucosa; micropuncture; mucosal blood flow; mucus gel thickness; omeprazole; permeability; prostaglandins; ranitidine; rat; Fysiologi och anatomi; MEDICINE Physiology and pharmacology; MEDICIN Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : The driving force for creation of channels in gastric mucus, for acid and pepsin transport, ismost probably the hydrostatic pressure generated within the gastric gland lumen. The aim ofthis study was to investigate the origin and regulation of the glandular pressure. READ MORE
