  1. 1. Disruption of vitamin A metabolism by dioxin

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Institute of Enviromental Medicine

    Author : Pi Högberg; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TCDD; dioxin; vitamin A; retinoic acid; cellular retinol-binding protein; bone;

    Abstract : Vitamin A (retinoids) is a nutrient that plays a central role in development and remains essential for cell growth and differentiation throughout life. Dioxins are polychlorinated organic pollutants known to negatively affect the storage and body clearance of retinoids. READ MORE

  2. 2. Red algal starch metabolism : effects of endosymbionts and nutrient status on starch metabolising enzymes

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Stockholm University

    Author : Pi Nyvall; Stockholms universitet.; [2000]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology;

    Abstract : Many different organisms occur as endosymbionts of red algae and while some are highly pathogenic others have little effect on the host. An endosymbiotic fungus, found in our culture of Gracilariopsis sp., was characterised and identified as a Chytridiomycete. It was named Thalassochytrium gracilariopsidis and probably belongs to a new order. READ MORE

  3. 3. Electron-Lattice Dynamics in pi-Conjugated Systems

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Magnus Hultell (Andersson); Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2007]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polaron dynamics; Exciton dynamics; pi-conjugated systems; Su-Schrieffer-Heeger SSH model; Adiabaticity; Charge carrier transport; Organic electronics.; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics Other physics Computational physics; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik Övrig fysik Beräkningsfysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis we explore in particular the dynamics of a special type of quasi-particle in pi-conjugated materials termed polaron, the origin of which is intimately related to the strong interactions between the electronic and the vibrational degrees of freedom within these systems. In order to conduct such studies with the particular focus of each appended paper, we simultaneously solve the time-dependent Schrödinger equation and the lattice equation of motion with a three-dimensional extension of the famous Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model Hamiltonian. 4. 4. Regulation of force and shortening velocity in smooth muscle

    University dissertation from Department of Physiology and Neuroscience, Lund University

    Author : Åsa Jaworowski; [1996]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; calponin; temperature; internal load; shortening velocity; cross-bridges; calcium; Smooth muscle; MLC-phosphorylation; Pi; Vi BDM; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish Sammanfattning på svenska Muskelvävnad är specialiserad på att förkorta sig och utveckla kraft. Glatt muskulatur finns i blodkärlens väggar, i urinvägarna, i luftvägarna samt i mag-tarmkanalen, och är viktig för dessa organs funktion. Namnet "glatt" (smooth) härrör från muskulaturens utseende i mikroskop. READ MORE

  5. 5. Human papillomavirus tropism determinants of viral tissue specificity

    University dissertation from Umeå : Klinisk mikrobiologi

    Author : Nitesh Mistry; Umeå universitet.; [2007]

    Abstract : Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women worldwide and human papillomavirus (HPV) is a prerequisit for the development of this cancer. HPV belongs to the Papillomaviridae family and infects the basal layer of epithelial cells where it generally progresses into warts or condylomas. READ MORE
