  1. 1. Never Heard Before: A Musical Exploration of Organ Voicing

    Author : João Segurado; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; voicing; voicing; sound; listening; pipe; organ; tone; musical composition; musical performance; experimental; collaboration; artistic research; ethnography; musique concrète; transient; attack; steady-state; ; harmonic spectrum; languid; toe-hole; mouth; flue; reed; Studio Acusticum; Gerald Woehl; Piteå;

    Abstract : This study describes the role of organ sounds in musical performance and exa- mines the visions and artistic perspectives of the voicer, who creates the sounds, and the organist, who uses them in performance. Organ pipe sounds are shaped in a process of gradual transformation called voicing, to suit the practice of musical performance, and they influence that practice in significant ways. READ MORE

  2. 2. Physical measurements and subjective characterization of pipe organ mechanical key actions

    Author : Erkin Asutay; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mechanical key action; Pipe organ; Instrument – player interaction;

    Abstract : Musical instruments do not only provide auditory or visual information but they also convey haptic feedback to the performer. One might consider that the auditory feedback is the only crucial information that the musician requires. READ MORE

  3. 3. On Dynamic Behaviour of Wind Systems for Pipe Organs

    Author : Tobias Carlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; wind system; pipe organ; wind supply; unsteady channel flow;

    Abstract : The wind system sets the operational conditions for the organ pipes. The pipe foot pressure is by nature very unsteady and is a result of the wind system response to the activities of the organ player. Changing flows create propagating pressure waves. READ MORE

  4. 4. Atmospheric Corrosion of Historic Lead Organ Pipes

    Author : Annika Niklasson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atmospheric corrosion; conservation strategies; formiate; historical organs; organ pipe corrosion; lead; oak wood; formic acid; acetic acid; acetate;

    Abstract : The atmospheric corrosion of lead is investigated, with the aim to improve the understanding of the environmental degradation of historical organ pipes. Fieldwork is combined with laboratory investigations. The field studies included characterization of the organ environment and exposures of lead coupons. READ MORE

  5. 5. Atmospheric Corrosion of Lead. The Influence of Organic acid Vapours and Inorganic Air Pollutants. A contribution Towards Understanding the Environmental Degradation of Historic Organ Pipes

    Author : Annika Niklasson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organ pipe; formic acid; Atmospheric corrosion; lead formate; lead acetate; NaCl; lead; acetic acid;

    Abstract : This thesis presents different perspectives on the atmospheric corrosion of lead, aiming at a better understanding of the environmental degradation of historical organ pipes. Corroded organ pipes from the field have been analyzed and the environment inside the organ wind system has been mapped. READ MORE
