  1. 16. Genetic, morphological and chemical variation in the genus Harpagophytum

    Author : Mbaki Muzila; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Harpagophytum procumbens is a valuable medicinal plant but mistakes with plant identification at harvesting, and wilful adulteration using the presumably less efficient H. zeyheri are suggested. A multidisciplinary study with plant material from Botswana was conducted. READ MORE

  2. 17. Phylogenetic Relationships, Biogeography and Species Delimitation: A case study on southern African Silene (Caryophyllaceae)

    Author : Ntwai A. Moiloa; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elisanthe; Illumina sequencing; Multispecies coalescent model; NGS; Phylogenetics; Phylogeography; species-trees; STACEY; target-capture;

    Abstract : The primary aim of this thesis was to explore the phylogenetic relationships and historical biogeography of African members of the plant genus Silene (Caryophyllaceae), with special focus on the eight native southern African taxa. Three loci (the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region, and the rps16 and matK regions from the plastid genome) generated using traditional Sanger sequencing were used to infer the phylogenetic positions of African taxa, while sequence data from 28 low copy nuclear loci were generated using the target capture method to explore shallow phylogenetic relationships within southern African taxa. 3. 18. Snake Gourds, Parasites and Mother Roasting : Medicinal plants, plant repellents, and Trichosanthes (Cucurbitaceae) in Lao PDR

    Author : Hugo J. de Boer; Lars Björk; Mats Thulin; Thomas Jaenson; Victoria Reyes-Garcia; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Trichosanthes; Ethnobotany; Similarity of Knowledge; Biogeography; Molecular Dating; Brou; Saek; Kry; Mother roasting; Postpartum healthcare; Parturition; Childbirth; Traditional Medicine; Plant repellents; Fermented fish; Biologi med inriktning mot systematik; Biology with specialization in Systematics;

    Abstract : Background. Traditional plant use was studied in Lao PDR. Research focused on medicinal plant use by the Brou, Saek and Kry ethnic groups, traditional plant repellents against parasitic arthropods and leeches, and the phylogeny and biogeography of the medicinally-important snake gourd genus (Trichosanthes, Cucurbitaceae).  Methods. 4. 19. Polyporoid fungi of Tanzania : Taxonomy, transcriptomics and biochemical analyses of Kusaghiporia usambarensis and Piptoporellus baudonii

    Author : Juma Mahmud Hussein; Sanja Tibell Savić; Donatha Tibuhwa; Christina Wedén; Ulf Göransson; Jan Stenlid; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systematics; Laetiporaceae; pharmacognosy; cysteine-rich peptide; baudonii; Biology with specialization in Systematics; Biologi med inriktning mot systematik;

    Abstract : Polyporoid fungi refers to basidiomycetes with fruiting bodies with the hymenium located to the inner surfaces of pores or narrow tubes. The majority of polyporoids belongs to Polyporales. Most Polyporales are saprobes, but some are plant pathogens. READ MORE

  5. 20. Pollination in Ephedra (Gnetales)

    Author : Kristina Bolinder; Catarina Rydin; Jürg Schönenberger; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; växtsystematik; Plant Systematics;

    Abstract : Pollination, i.e., the transport of male gametophytes to female gametophytes, can occur with biotic or abiotic vectors and is necessary for fertilization and completion of the lifecycle in all seed plants. READ MORE
