  1. 16. Discovery and investigation of glycoside hydrolase family 5 enzymes with potential use in biomass conversion

    Author : Yang Wang; Henrik Aspeborg; Ines Ezcurra; Jerry Ståhlberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plant cell wall; biomass; hemicellulose; mannans; glycoside hydrolase; subfamily classification; Arabidopsis; mannanase; transglycosylase; enzymatic characterization.; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Glycoside hydrolases (GHs) cleave glycosidic bonds in glycoconjugates, oligosaccharides and polysaccharides such as cellulose and various hemicelluloses. Mannan is a major group of hemicelluloses. READ MORE

  2. 17. The plant respiratory chain: Redox responses and catalytic definition of alternative pathways

    Author : Daniela Geisler; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; enzymology; Proteins; Kärlväxters fysiologi; Physiology of vascular plants; Växtekologi; Plant ecology; Växtbiokemi; Plant biochemistry; respiratory chain; plant mitochondria; nitrogen; NADPH dehydrogenase; NADH dehydrogenase; alternative oxidase; calcium; Proteiner; enzymologi; Bioenergetics; Bioenergetik; Lipids; steroids; membranes; Lipider; steroider; mebran;

    Abstract : The respiratory chain of plants contains both proton-pumping enzymes that conserve energy and non-proton-pumping alternative enzymes that bypass the sites of energy conservation. In addition to the proton-pumping complex I, plant mitochondria contain alternative type II NAD(P)H dehydrogenases, which allow oxidation of NADH and NADPH from the matrix and the cytosol. READ MORE

  3. 18. Plant mitochondrial biogenesis : protein sorting, import, processing and degradation

    Author : Carina Knorpp; Stockholms universitet; []

  4. 19. Sorting and Import of Plant Mitochondrial Precursor Proteins

    Author : Erik von Stednigk; David Day; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : The mitochondrial genome encodes only a handful of the mitochondrial proteins; hundreds of mitochondrial proteins are encoded in the nucleus, synthesised on cytosolic polyribosomes and subsequently imported into the organelle. Most of the proteins targeted to the mitochondria are synthesised as precursors with an N-terminal extension called presequence or targeting sequence. READ MORE

  5. 20. Nucleotide-binding Proteins in the Plant Thylakoid Membrane

    Author : Sophie Heurtel Thuswaldner; Cornelia Spetea Wiklund; Bengt Persson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plant; Arabidopsis; photosynthesis; thylakoid membrane; nucleotide-binding; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Life on Earth is dependent on the oxygen produced through photosynthesis. The thylakoid membrane is the site for the light-driven reactions of photosynthesis, which oxidize water and supply energy in the form of ATP, mainly for carbon fixation. The utilization of ATP in the lumenal space of the thylakoid has not been considered in the past. READ MORE
