  1. 1. Leisure and muscular performance in health and disease : a study of 40-64-year-old northern Swedes

    Author : Björn Gerdle; Kerstin Sjögren; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Leisure; health; skeletal muscle; isokinetics; electromyography; plantar flexion; muscular fatigue;

    Abstract : Categories and frequencies of leisureactivities employed by 156 randomly selected males and females aged 40-44, 50-54, 60-64 were investigated by structured interviews and were related to leisuresatisfaction, to experienced health and socio-economic status. In equal numbers (15) of males and females from each group and in 24 males (60 +_6 years) with intermittent claudication (Cl) isokinetic plantar flexion performance was investigated with registrations of peak torque (PT), contractional work (CW), active range-of-motion (RoM) and integrated electromyograms from all threee triceps surae heads. 2. 2. An Investigation of the Influence of Knee Flexion Angle on the Activity of the Triceps Surae Muscles during the Heel-Raise Test

    Author : Kim Hébert-Losier; S. John Sullivan; Anthony G. Schneiders; José A. García; Univeristy of Otago; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomechanics; Electromyography; Triceps surae; Achilles tendon; Plantar flexion; Heel raise test; Physiotherapy; Rehabilitation; Musculoskeletal; Movement analysis; Muscle endurance; Maximum voluntary isometric contraction;

    Abstract : Background: The heel-raise test (HRT) is used in clinical practice and research to assess the triceps suare (TS) muscles. The test involves repetitive unilateral heel-raises in upright stance. The test is administered with the knee straight for gastrocnemius medialis (GM) and lateralis (GL), and with the knee bent for soleus (SOL). READ MORE

  3. 3. Post-polio syndrome : physiotherapeutic analysis and interventions

    Author : Katarina Skough; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Post-polio syndrome;

    Abstract : This thesis presents four studies focusing on outcomes of gait performance using gait analysis and/or the Six-minute-walk test (6MWT), in patients with post-polio syndrome (PPS). Further, resistance training in combination with Coenzyme Q10 (Q10) and intravenous immunoglobulin treatment (IvIg) in PPS patients was evaluated. READ MORE

  4. 4. Analysis of body motions based on optical markers. Accuracy, error analysis and clinical applications

    Author : Roy Tranberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Instrumented gait analysis Motion analysis Skin markers Optical tracking system;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to evaluate the influence of soft-tissue artefacts on analyses of body motions based on optical markers. A second aim is to apply instrumented gait analysis in clinical situations. Introduction: Instrumented gait analysis has been used since 1960 as a clinical evaluation/investigative tool at orthopaedic clinics. READ MORE

  5. 5. Evaluation of surface electromyography and aspects of muscle strength in persons without motor impairment and in children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy

    Author : Barbro Larsson; Katharina Stibrant-Sunnerhagen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Impaired muscle function significantly affects persons with Cerebral Palsy (CP), affects that include muscle strength, fatigue and endurance. This thesis evaluates a test method, an endurance test, and estimates aspects of muscle fatigue and muscle endurance in persons without impaired muscle function and in children with CP. READ MORE
