  1. 1. Evolution of Plants a mathematical perspective

    University dissertation from Umeå : Print & Media

    Author : Magnus Lindh; Umeå universitet.; [2016]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Evolution; plants; mathematics; optimization; optimal control; adaptive dynamics; flowering; seasons; tree crown; drought; taproot; trade-off; strategy; trait; ESS; NPP; LAI; Red Queen; Mathematics; matematik;

    Abstract : The Earth harbors around 300 000 plant species. The rich and complex environment provided by plants is considered a key factor for the extraordinary diversity of the terrestrial fauna by, for example, providing food and shelter. READ MORE

  2. 2. Metal accumulation by plants evaluation of the use of plants in stormwater treatment

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Botaniska institutionen

    Author : Åsa Fritioff; Stockholms universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elodea canadensis; Potamogeton natans; uptake; translocation; distribution; toxicity; salinity; temperature; and leakage; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Organism biology Plant physiology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Organismbiologi Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Metal contaminated stormwater, i.e. surface runoff in urban areas, can be treated in percolation systems, ponds, or wetlands to prevent the release of metals into receiving waters. Plants in such systems can, for example, attenuate water flow, bind sediment, and directly accumulate metals. READ MORE

  3. 3. Spatial Models of Gene Patterns in Plants

    University dissertation from Lund University, Faculty of Science, Department of Astronomy and Theoretical Physics

    Author : André Larsson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2017]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; computational morphodynamics; gene regulation; spatial models; plants; development; auxin; meristem; Fysicumarkivet A:2017:Larsson;

    Abstract : Hur utvecklas en växt? Om man studerar växter så upptäcker man ganska snart de många symmetrier och regelbundna former som finns i växtriket. Nya växtorgan såsom löv och blommor bildas ofta i regelbundna mönster, som exempelvis kan ge upphov till de spiraler som kan observeras på en ananas eller kotte. READ MORE

  5. 5. Iron nutrition dynamics - Differences between calcicole and calcifuge plants

    University dissertation from Department of Ecology, Lund University

    Author : Angelika Zohlen; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2000]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 10-phenanthroline; 1; chlorophyll; plaque; root; leaf; immobilization; plants; calcifuge; Iron; calcicole; Plant ecology; Växtekologi;

    Abstract : One third of the earth´s soils is calcareous. Calcifuge plants are excluded from these soils, and one of the main causes is Fe deficiency, as Fe solubility in calcareous soil is very low. A lack of Fe lowers chlorophyll content, visible as yellowing of leaves, called chlorosis. READ MORE
