1. Extreme Electron Beams and Brilliant X-rays : Generation, Manipulation and Characterization of Relativistic Electron Beams for and from Plasma-Based Accelerators
Abstract : This thesis is based on work done by the author on the development of plasma-based electron accelerators driven by ultra-intense laser pulses and dense electron bunches. Plasma based accelerators have several benefits, such as accelerating fields around 1000 times stronger than in “conventional” radio-frequency accelerators, which can allow for shrinking the overall footprint of the accelerator. 2. Fundamentals of High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering
Abstract : In plasma assisted thin film growth, control over the energy and direction of the incoming species is desired. If the growth species are ionized this can be achieved by the use of a substrate bias or a magnetic field. Ions may be accelerated by an applied potential, whereas neutral particles may not. 3. Advanced Plasma Analyzer for Measurements in the Magnetosphere of Jupiter
Abstract : The Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer is a planetary exploration mission that aims to study the moons of Jupiter in the planet’s vast magnetosphere. Among the various instruments on board is the Particle Environment Package (PEP), that is led by the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF) in Kiruna. READ MORE

4. Liquid scintillators as neutron diagnostic tools for fusion plasmas : System characterization and data analysis
Abstract : The neutrons produced in fusion devices carry information about various properties of the ions that are reacting in the machine. Measurements of the neutron flux and energy distribution can therefore be used to study the behaviour of the plasma ions under different experimental conditions. READ MORE

5. Characterization of metal plasma streams from arc discharges in a reactive environment
Abstract : Alumina is a material used in many applications mainly due to its chemical inertness and wear resistance at high temperatures. Despite this, the understanding of alumina thin films is not satisfactory, as can be concluded from the diverging material properties reported in the literature. READ MORE
